1.2.3. Существительное в общем падеже с предлогом (The Common Case of the Noun with Prepositions)

Определение, выраженное существительным с предлогом, занимает место после определяемого слова. Чаще всего такие определения выражают отношение принадлежности, в этом случае, как правило, используется предлог of, например:

level of water	уровень воды
efficiency of the system	эффективность системы
manufacturers of processors	производители процессоров
development of standard solutions	выработка стандартных решений

Часто можно найти параллельное употребление конструкций с of и атрибутивных конструкций: the market leader – the leader of the market, innovation centre – centre of innovation, the data base developers – developers of the data base.

Однако, в роли определения могут выступать существительные и с другими предлогами.

Exercise 1.2.1. Put the following expressions in plural as follows: a student’s bag – students’ bags.

Exercise 1.2.2. Join two nouns. Sometimes you have to use the apostrophe (’) with or without s. Sometimes you have to use ... of ... . Example: the door / the room – the door of the room; mother / Ann – Ann’s mother.
