8.5.3. Будущее неопределенное в прошедшем (The Future Indefinite-in-the-Past)

Используется в том случае, если будущее действие рассматривается с точки зрения прошедшего, встречается в придаточных предложениях (при наличии главного, выраженного в форме Past Indefinite). При этом вспомогательный глагол will меняется на would (shall – на should).

In this letter our companion promised that he would try to deliver software in time.	В своем письме наш партнер пообещал, что он постарается поставить программное обеспечение в срок.
We thought that she would improve her health in that winter resort.	Мы думали, что она поправит свое здоровье на том зимнем курорте.

В придаточных предложениях времени или условия вместо Future-in-the-Past употребляется Past Indefinite.

I believed that if he put on weight he wouldn’t be able to take part in the tournament.	Я считал, что, если он наберет вес, он не сможет принять участие в турнире.
The doctor told us that she would recover little by little till he called her for the second examination.	Врач сказал, что она будет мало-помалу выздоравливать, пока он не вызовет ее для вторичного осмотра.

 When the sky falls we’ll catch the larks.

 An elementary school teacher sends this note to all parents on the first day of school: “If you promise not to believe everything your child says happens at school, I will promise not to believe everything your child says happens at home”.

Exercise 8.5.5. Translate into English.
