показывать) that his mind is but diseased (что его разум только болен), not

The physician addressed (врач, к которому был адресован вопрос) bowed low
(поклонился низко), and replied (и ответил; to reply — отвечать):
'It jumpeth with mine own conviction
убеждению), sire (сир), that thou hast divined aright (что вы предугадали

'Now mark ye all (сейчас заметьте вы все): we will try him further (мы
He put a question to Tom in French
Tom stood silent a moment
(смущенный /тем, что/) by having so many eyes centered upon him (столько
'I have no knowledge (я не имею знания) of this tongue (этого языка), so please
your majesty (ваше величество).'
The king fell back (король откинулся) upon his couch (на свое ложе). The
attendants flew to his assistance (слуги кинулись ему на помощь; to fly —
летать); but he put them aside (но он отстранил их), and said (и сказал):
'Trouble me not (не беспокойте меня; устар. вместо don’t trouble) — it is
nothing but (это ничто (другое), как) a scurvy faintness (жалкая слабость). Raise

Fear thou not (не страшись); thou'lt
soon be well (ты скоро поправишься).' Then he turned toward the company
манера изменилась), and baleful lightnings (и зловещие молнии) began to play
(начали играть = сверкать) from his eyes (из его глаз). He said (он сказал):
'List ye all (слушайте вы все)! This my son is mad (этот мой сын безумен); but
it is not permanent Overstudy hath done this

Away with his books

доставлять удовольствие), beguile him in wholesome ways (развлекайте его
здоровыми способами), so that his health come again (чтобы его здоровье
He raised himself higher still (он поднялся еще выше) and went on
with energy (и продолжал с энергией). 'He is mad (он безумен); but he is my son
(но он мой сын), and England's heir (и английский наследник); and, mad or sane

дальше), and proclaim it (и объявите об этом); whoso speaketh of this his
distemper (кто бы ни заговорил о его душевном расстройстве) worketh against
the peace and order («работает» = действует против мира и порядка) of these
realms (этого королевства), and shall to the gallows (и отправится на
Give me to drink (дайте мне выпить) — I burn (я горю): This
sorrow (эта печаль) sappeth my strength (истощает мои силы; to sap —
There (так), take away the cup (унесите кубок)... Support
me (поддержите меня). There, that is well Mad, is he
Were he (будь он хоть) a thousand times mad (тысячу раз
безумен), yet is he Prince of Wales (все же он принц Уэльский), and I the king
will confirm it (и я, король, подтверждаю это). This very morrow (уже завтра)
shall he be installed (будет он помазан) in his princely dignity (в своем
княжеском достоинстве) in due and ancient form (по должной и древней
Take instant order for it
One of the nobles knelt (один из дворян стал на колени; to kneel — преклонять
колени) at the royal couch (у королевского ложа), and said (и сказал):

Great Marshal of England
