Coast radio stations, medical and quarantine services, general regulations, etc.
General Information
The following details apply to all volumes of the List of Radio Signals.
Frequency: 500. A2. 2 kW. signifies Wave Frequency 500 kilocycles per second, Type A2, Power 2 kilowatts.
Times quoted are, unless otherwise stated, in Greenwich Mean Time (Civil) (G.M.T.) and the hours are reckoned from 0000 (midnight) to 2359..
Bearings are true, expressed in degrees from 000° (North) to 359°, measured clockwise.
Geographical Positions of coast stations are normally as given by the controlling authority; in some cases they are in accordance with the Admiralty chart. Coast stations are shown on Chart No. 3778 (Telegraph Chart of the World). If bearings are taken to coast stations it should be remembered that in many cases the positions quoted are only approximate.

Radio Stations: General Remarks
With
the exception of Portishead and Rugby (to which special
arrangements apply), the following remarks apply to all coast
stations in Britain.
1.
Ships
are normally included in traffic lists only during their notified
hours of watch. They may be called at other times, however, if the
coast station has reason to believe that they are within range and
keeping watch. Ships whose notified hours of watch do not coincide
with times at which traffic lists are transmitted are called
during their notified hours of watch.

Stations keep loud-speaker watch on 2,182 kc/s at all times except when engaged in exchanging traffic. Calls received on 2,182 kc/s are answered on that frequency.
-
During a period of distress, the frequency of 512 kc/s may be used by a ship to call any coast station which is not engaged in the distress working.
The coast station will answer the call on its normal working frequency and, when communication has been established, the ship should transfer to its working frequency for the transmission of the traffic to the coast station.
