Suspension of radiobeacon services
Mariners are warned that radiobeacons are liable to interruption of service for varying periods for overhauls, etc. This is particularly the case with radiobeacons on light-vessels, which may be withdrawn from station for periods up to several weeks. Reserve light-vessels are frequently not equipped with a radiobeacon.
"QTG" SERVICE
Circumstances may arise in which a ship, equipped with D/F apparatus, is not conveniently situated in relation to Radiobeacons, or for some other reason wishes to take bearings to a Coast Station. When employing this method of obtaining a bearing, the shore station must be called in the orthodox manner. To facilitate a ship taking a bearing with her own D/F gear, the following signals have been adopted.
QTG? = Will you send your call signal for fifty .seconds followed by a dash of 10 seconds on a frequency of ... kilocycles in order that I may take your bearing?
QTG (Reply) = I am sending my call sign for fifty seconds followed
by a dash of 10 seconds on a frequency of kilocycles in order that you may take my bearing.

Navigational assistance from radar stations
Mariners are cautioned that radar information is given merely as navigational assistance and is not a form of control. The provision of such information does not relieve the master of a ship of his responsibility for the safe navigation of the ship. The position given, unless otherwise stated, is that of the coast or signal station through which contact is made.
