Law Institutes of the mia in Russia
Higher educational establishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in Russia are designed to train highly qualified law enforcement officers and provide them with high standards in legal and general education.
In order to enter a Law Institute of the MIA the applicants should pass a physical examination, a background investigation, a psychological test, an oral interview and some entrance examinations. If there are passing grades, proper moral and physical standards, they will become students of the Institute. The tuition here is free.
According to the regulations the students of the Law Institute of the MIA are to wear a special militia uniform since they are going to become militia officers, not civil lawyers. Upon graduation the students will get a diploma of a lawyer and become lieutenants of militia ready to work in different militia agencies. Their future profession is law, crime detection, crime investigation and crime prevention.
Knowledge of special means, methods and forms of crime detection and crime investigation is quite necessary for the graduates of Law Institutes so that under any circumstances they could perform their duties in a professional manner. That is why the students have lectures, seminars and practical exercises in many special education subjects: Law Enforcement Tactics, Firing Drill, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Forensic Sciences, Crime Detection, Crime Psychology, Criminology and some others. In addition to special education subjects there are general education subjects on the curriculum such as Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy, History of Russia, Foreign Languages and some others. They aim at broadening the students’ horizons, developing their intellectual capacities, their reasoning power and their ability to communicate.
The lecturing and instructional staffs of Law Institutes of the MIA are experienced lecturers, well-known scientists and law enforcement experts of great practical experience.
Most Law Institutes of the MIA in Russia have good living and instruction facilities: specially equipped classrooms; computer laboratories equipped with up-to-date computers; lecture-halls; self-study classrooms; libraries; indoor and outdoor shooting ranges; clubs; camps for field training; physical technique complexes with gymnasiums, obstacle courses and running tracks; dining halls and dormitories.
