Становление географии как науки
География и географы с самого начала выполняли великую миссию сближения народов, наводили нерушимые мосты между людьми и странами. Именно эту самую главную функцию сближения народов география выполняла полнее, чем какая-либо иная наука. Человек издавна был склонен к перемещению в пространстве. И одним из видов перемещений стали путешествия, т.к. процесс объединения некогда рассеявшихся племен сделал путешествия практически необходимыми. Стать теоретической наукой без путешественников и путешествий география никогда не смогла бы, т.к. нашу планету сначала необходимо было описать, составить представление о ее особенностях, а потом уже создавать теоретическое обоснование. Путешественники появились тогда, когда разные страны убедились в невозможности существовать совершенно изолированно. Этим и был обусловлен интерес к пространству, которое легче поддавалось описанию и измерению. Уже в античной науке произошло разделение понятий о пространстве на отрасли, которые сегодня называются «география» и «геометрия». Сам термин «география» («землеописание») был введен александрийским ученым, крупным математиком и ученым Эратосфеном, жившем в третьем веке до нашей эры. Создатель геоцентрической системы мира (Земля в центре Вселенной) Клавдий Птолемей определял географию как линейное изображение всей ныне известной части Земли со всем тем, что на ней находится, причем география изображает известную нам землю единой и непрерывной. Природа и положение показывались в виде самых общих очертаний, отмечались заливы, большие города, реки и все остальное. Все это в географии изображалось способом географических карт и описаний. Некоторые ученые датируют начало географии появлением первого описания ойкумены или первой карты. Однако известно, что уже в античные времена географы писали о колебаниях уровня моря и поднятиях островов, знали о зависимости фаз Луны и высоты приливов, подмечали пространственно временные связи в окружающем мире. Именно эта «описательная суть» позволила географии сыграть совершенно исключительную роль в дальнейшем становлении ее как науки. |
