1863 Vol. 6 page 12.1 – “Healthful food, pure air, proper clothing, rest, appropriate exercise, soft water, pleasant mental conditions are what the living forces demand for the preservation of the organ.”

Why 1 – Lifestyle (What 1)

If people have a good lifestyle there would be no disease and there would be an increasing life expectancy with each succeeding generation.

1862 Vol. 5 page 148.2 – “If human beings were to live according to the laws upon which life depends, there would be no deaths except by accident or casualty, save such as come of old age. ....

Families in which the elements of decay are now the controlling and prevailing force, would find themselves gradually, from generation to generation, looking up.”

Why 2 – Scrofula (What 1)

Scrofula is caused by poison in the blood.

1863 Vol. 6 page12.1 – “Scrofula is nothing more or less than a specific poison, floating in the blood or deposited in the tissue. .... It is least dangerous when it appears upon the external surface of the body in the form of eruptions. The breaking out always indicates an effort on the part of the vital forces to relieve the system from poisonous particles, by throwing them out through the excretory vessels on the surface. ... Often the scrofulous deposits, .... is made upon the mucous membranes either of the stomach, intestines, nasal passages, throat or lungs.”

Why 3 – Tuberculosis (What 1)

Tuberculosis is caused by scrofula that goes inwards.

1863 Vol. 6 page 187.3 – “Your husband has scrofulous of body, and is predisposed to consumption

.... His boils, from which he is suffering have undoubtedly served a useful purpose in carrying off waste materials, which otherwise might, through the circulation, have been directed to the lungs, forming abscesses therein.”

Page 14.1 – “hereditary scrofulous, and is predisposed to scrofulous consumption.”

Why 4 – Inherited Scrofula (What 1) Scrofula is inherited.

1862 Vol. 5 page19.1 – “A scrofulous man and woman marrying and begetting and bearing children may therefore, as well understand at the out-set that their children will partake of their individual and united physical tendencies, susceptibilities, and characteristics..... There children must be scrofulous, ... which in nine cases out of ten ultimately in pulmonary consumption,”
