Health & Medical statements found in The Ministry of Healing (M. of H.), 1905 Spiritual Gifts Volume 4 (S. G.), 1864

1870, Testimonies for the Church Vol 2, Chapter 55 – “True Love at Home” Comment – In 1960 there was little known about family relationships and health.

Now our relationships with close friends and family are a major influence on the immune system. An active sex life is a strong influence on the immune system. Unfortunately Ellen White did not elaborate on the beneficial affect of sex activity. At the time sex was regarded as an action that depleted the vital forces and caused ill health. In An Appeal to Mothers, it appears that Ellen White was influenced by this philosophy. Because of this I have not given this statement a significant status.

What 80 – Love

M. of H. page 394 – “Parents, let your children see that you love them and will do all in your power to make them happy.”

Page 361 – “Let each give love rather than exact it.”

1870, Testimonies for the Church Vol 2, Chapter 55 – “True Love at Home”

Comment – A child without love neither physically nor emotionally is unable to fully develop A loving relationship is a powerful stimulant to the immune system.

M. of H. page 177 – “And occupation of mind and body in useful work is essential as a safeguard against temptation.” (for the intemperate)

Page 264 – “For those who are able to work, let some pleasant, easy employment be provided.” Page 265 – “As they are encouraged to leave their rooms and spend time in the open air, cultivating flowers or doing some other light, pleasant work, their attention will be diverted from themselves and their sufferings.”

S. G. page 145 – “Inactivity will cause disease.”

Comments – The idea that occupation is a physical health advantage is much stronger in Spiritual Gifts than it is in The Ministry of Healing. It is now known that to be occupied improves the immune system.

M. of H. page 246 – “The power of the will is not valued as it should be. Let the will be kept awake and rightly directed, and it will impart energy to the whole being and will be a wonderful aid in the maintenance of health. It is a power also in dealing with disease. Exercised in the right direction, it would control the imagination and be a potent means of resisting and overcoming disease of both mind and body. By the exercise of the will power in placing themselves in right relation to life, patients can do much to co-operate with the physician's efforts for their recovery.”

S. G page 145 – ‘The power of the will is a mighty soother of the nerves, and can resist much disease,”

Comment – By 1960 there was no proof, but many believed it to be so. It is now known that the will to live is a strong influence on the immune system.
