Глобальная паутина террора
Общим местом стал сегодня тезис о том, что события 11 сентября 2001 года ознаменовали собой завершение переходного периода между мировой политикой времен “холодной войны” и новой системой международных отношений. Но о характере этой возникающей системы до сих пор идут острые споры. Одни, как и прежде, с надеждой предсказывают скорое наступление многополюсного мира. Другие видят в череде событий, разворачивающихся на международной арене, признаки мира однополярного. Третьи размышляют о некоей комбинации этих двух вариантов. Вместе с тем есть все больше свидетельств, что наиболее опасные, хотя, разумеется, не единственные конфликты, свойственные новой мировой системе, так или иначе выстраиваются вдоль оси Север-Юг.
Многие считают, что масштабы и острота этих противоречий и конфликтов позволяют говорить о надвигающейся ”третьей мировой войне”. Ее начало видят в террористических ударах по Нью-Йорку и Вашингтону и последовавшей за ними американской операции в Афганистане; очередном длительном подъеме палестинского терроризма в Израиле; войне в Чечне и террористических актах в российских городах; нестабильности в Алжире, Индонезии, Синьцзяне, на Филиппинах и в Центральной Азии, албанской экспансии на Балканах, множащихся разоблачениях террористических групп в Европе; постоянно появляющихся свидетельствах попыток экстремистских организаций обрести оружие массового уничтожения; акции США против Ирака. И действительно, все эти события выглядят как предвестники новой волны войн и конфликтов XXI века. Если они и вправду являются фрагментами одной картины, то перспектива “глобальной герильи” из области политический фантастики перемещается в сферу военно-политической реальности. Полями ее сражений будут не только ущелья и плоскогорья стран Юга, но и городские джунгли крупнейших мегаполисов Севера, в том числе и российских.

Преступление без наказания
Трагедия 11 сентября заставила американцев внести коррективы в свою будничную жизнь. Подверглись ревизии и праздники. В городе Ариэль (штат Вашингтон) впервые за последние за последние четверть века не состоялись ежегодные торжества “имени воздушного пирата Д.Купера”.
Это событие, положившее начало новому мифу и породившее очередного национального героя, произошло 24 ноября 1971 года.
Салон самолета компании “Норвест Эйрлайнз” был наполовину пуст. Когда до пункта назначения – Сиэтла – оставалось менее часа безмятежного полёта, один из пассажиров нажал кнопку вызова стюардессы. Очаровательная девушка в униформе тут же примчалась на зов.
– Что вам угодно? – с обворожительной улыбкой спросила она.
– Мне угодно, – сказал человек в скромном костюме и чёрных очках, - чтобы экипаж исполнял все мои приказы.
С этими словами он открыл кейс, лежащий у него на коленях, и стюардесса увидела, что чемоданчик набит красными цилиндрами, опутанными проводами.
– Иначе… – многозначительно произнёс террорист.
На подгибающихся ногах стюардесса кинулась к кабине пилотов и ворвалась в неё с криком:
– У него бомба!
Следующие полчаса шли непрерывные переговоры с “землёй”.
– Чего он хочет? – спрашивала “земля”.
– Четыре парашюта и 200 тысяч долларов наличными, – отвечал командир экипажа.
– И все?
Это и впрямь было странно. Почему не миллион, а то и два? “Земля” терялась в догадках. Тем временем самолёт приближался к Сиэтлу, и надо было принимать решение.
– Передайте, что мы согласны выполнить все его требования. Пусть только отпустит заложников. Хотя бы женщин и детей.
Самолет приземлился точно по расписанию и был немедленно окружен полицейскими машинами. Подали трап, по которому спустились 36 человек, в том числе все женщины, дети и пассажиры преклонного возраста. Человек, купивший билет на имя “Д.Купер”, выполнил свою часть соглашения. Противная сторона не заставила себя ждать: к трапу были подвезены четыре парашюта и холщовый мешок с деньгами. Правда, купюры успели пометить, но знать об этом пирату было необязательно.
– Они спрашивают, что вы намерены делать раньше? – сгрузив у ног террориста парашюты, спросил командир экипажа.
– Мы летим в Рино, – последовал ответ.
Самолёт дозаправили горючим, после чего он взлетел и взял курс на Неваду. Там уже готовились к встрече… И штурму.
Однако до Рино человек в чёрных очках не долетел. Над штатом Вашингтон он выпрыгнул из самолёта с парашютом.
Тут же были организованы поиски преступника, однако они не увенчались успехом. Д. Купер исчез, оставив массу вопросов, ни на один из которых так и не было найдено ответа.
Начать с того, что составленный по горячим следам фоторобот преступника ничем не помог следствию – настоящее имя преступника до сих пор неизвестно. Далее: как он мог улизнуть от облавы? Территория штата Вашингтон была покрыта толстым слоем снега, а температура держалась у отметки минус 7 градусов. Между тем террорист покинул самолёт, в чём был – в костюме, без перчаток и без головного убора. Следующий момент: воздушный пират явно не разбирался в парашютах, потому что выбрал тот, который изначально был годен лишь для тренировочных прыжков с вышки. Если террорист разбился, то где его останки и парашют? Если каким-то чудом уцелел, не унёс же он парашют с собой!
Делом Купера занимался специальный агент ФБР Ральф Химмельсбах. Не оставил он своих стараний и тогда, когда дело было сдано в архив. Уже выйдя на пенсию, Химмельсбах в 1980 году обнаружил на берегу реки Колумбия 5880 помеченных долларов из тех, которые были выданы Куперу. Но где остальные деньги и где сам преступник, ну хотя бы его тело?
К тому моменту, когда эксагент ФБР признал своё поражение, Д.Купер, единственный воздушный пират, которому удалось уйти от наказания, стал легендой. О нём писали газеты, засыпая читателей версиями и подробностями происшедшего. Позже “славные” деяния террориста были увековечены в песне, книгах, трёх документальных и одном художественном фильмах. Его называли “наследником героев Дикого Запада”, “продолжателем традиций Чикаго 20-х годов” и даже “хранителем Великой Американской Мечты”. Да, действительно, рискнув всем, он в одночасье стал богат… И благоденствует ныне. Если, конечно, остался жив.
В ноябре 1975 года в городке Ариэль, ближайшем к месту предполагаемого приземления террориста, в его честь был проведён праздник, главной составляющей которого стали затяжные прыжки с парашютом. Так и прыгали почитатели Д.Купера год за годом до сегодняшнего дня. Террористы помешали – иные, настоящие, те, что протаранили Международный центр торговли в Нью-Йорке. Настал черед других героев, другой мечты.
