    1. Learn the following:

Note: to be subject to …- быть подверженным ч-л; подлежащий ч-л.

1. Depths in the channels are subject to change. 2. Mariners without local knowledge, and not subject to compulsory pilotage, are advised to obtain the services of a pilot. 3. Vessels without VHF are subject to compulsory pilotage. 4. All vessels carring dangerous substances in bulk are subject to compulsory pilotage. 5. Movements through locks are also subject to compulsory pilotage.

IV. Translate the following sentences into Russian, taking into consideration the words until and unless.

REMEMBER :

until (till) – prep: up to the time of (Worked until noon) – работал до полудня;

conj: up to the time that (Wait until I call.) – Жди, пока я не позвоню

unless – conj : except on the condition that ( You can’t enter unless you take a pilot.) – Вы не можете войти, если только не возьмете лоцмана.

  1. In rough weather the pilot boat will lead in until the pilot is able to board.

  2. Vessels are advised to wait to seaward of Fairway Light-buoy until cleared to enter.

  3. Request for pilots should be passed on VHF R/T unless previous arrangements have been made.

  4. Pilotage is not compulsory, but is recommended unless local knowledge is available.

  5. Pilotage is not compulsory for internal movements unless a tug is employed or the vessel is carrying dangerous substances in bulk.

  6. Vessels should keep watch on 5045 kHz R/T until VHF contact is established with the helicopter.
