3. Making a date by phone

Helen: 370 4494.

Gunther: Hello, Helen, this is Gunther.

Helen: Hello, Gunther! What a surprise! Are you calling from Germany?

Gunther: Yes, I am. I just wanted to let you know that Sabine and I are going to be

in London next Tuesday and Wednesday. We were wondering if we could

meet.

136

Helen: Oh, that'd be great. When will you be arriving? You'll be flying, I take it?

Gunther: Yes. We arrive at Heathrow at ten past three on Tuesday afternoon.

Helen: I see. I could probably arrange to meet you at the airport. It's Terminal 2,

isn't it?

Gunther: No, Terminal 1 - British Airways from Frankfurt. But are you sure it won't

be too much trouble? I mean, driving out all the way to Heathrow? We

can just as easily take the Tube.

Helen: It'll be hardly any trouble at all. You know my office is about halfway between

the West End and Heathrow. I was going to take the afternoon off

anyway, so I'll just make the detour to the airport and take you into town

with me. Where will you be staying?

Gunther: At the Royal.

Helen: That's in Park Lane, isn't it?

Gunther: Yes, that's right. If you and Frank haven't got anything planned for the

evening, we'd like to take you out to dinner.

Helen: I was going to suggest you have dinner at our place. I'm into Japanese

cooking at the moment...

Gunther: A Japanese dinner? That's hard to resist. Thank you very much. We'll be

delighted to come.

Helen: So it's ten past three at Terminal 1, Heathrow, next Tuesday afternoon. I'll

be there to meet you.

Gunther: Well, thanks a lot then, Helen, we're looking forward to seeing you both

again. Till Tuesday then.

Helen: Bye-bye, Gunther, and give my love to Sabine.

Gunther: Yes, I will. Bye!
