Exercise 34. Complete the conversations. Put the verb in brackets in the correct form in the present or past.

Emphatic Auxiliaries - do/does/did

You use do/does/did + infinitive in positive sentences to add special emphasis or contrast

You do look beautiful today.

She does feel sorry for Roger.

She thinks that I didn't see the queen, but I did see her.

do/does/did + imperative makes a request or invitation more persuasive

Do come with us.

Do work a little harder.

Do help me, please.

You never use do/does/did with “be” except in the imperative

Don't be stupid!

Do be a good boy and sit down!

Exercise 36. Add special emphasis to the following sentences. Use do, does or did.

Example: She looks nervous. - She does look nervous.

Jack enjoyed the film. - Jack did enjoy the film.

1. I hate wasting my time.

2. Veronica, I understand what you're telling me about.

3. He likes eating out.

4. They went to Paris about a week ago.

5. Debbie had a wonderful childhood.
