  • Perfect Tenses – Passive Voice.

Exercise 12. Change the sentences using Active Voice:

1. I am sure I shall have been asked by my colleagues about this event by the evening. 2. My departure has been planned by me before. 3. The annotation has been already published by the author. 4. This important work had been finished by us by the morning. 5. She will have been exhausted by such hard work by next month. 6. We have been promised some new computers by our suppliers. 7. All documents had been signed by the time we came in. 8. The chemical equipment has just been delivered by foreign partners. 9. We were told that our order had not been fulfilled by the clerk. 10. New supermarket will have been visited by a lot of foreign tourists by the end of the year.

Exercise 13. Compose the following sentences in Passive Voice. Mind word order:

Exercise 14. Turn the following sentences into Passive Voice:

1. We shall invite him to take part in the talks. 2. Had the students written a test before the bell rang? 3. Customers have made us an interesting offer lately. 4. The representatives of the French company haven’t taken up this point at the meeting, have they? 5. Everyone at the ceremony looked with great interest at the President’s wife. 6. Who has already signed the offer to our foreign partners? 7. The small enterprise is producing the office furniture for European countries. 8. The Sales manager will have met our guests by the time we look through all documents.

Exercise 15. Insert the missing part of the analytical form of the verb (Passive or Active Voice):

1. An interesting article … published in the next issue of the magazine. It … published by the 1st of May. It … not … published yet. I … written now. When … his preceding article published? It … not yet published by June. It … discussed when I came to the sitting of the chair. They … discussed it by the time I … arrived at.

2. Our office … not … papered since the new furniture … bought. We think it must … papered this spring. Our neighbor’s office … papered now. The paper-hanger says the work … finished soon. It … finished by the next month. We shall ask our partners not to come to our place when our office … papered.

3. Who … this article … translated by? It … translated by my colleague last month. She … translated it before the work was finished. … any other articles translated so quickly? I don’t think so, our colleague is too busy now.

Exercise 16. Give two passive constructions of the following sentences:

Model: The lecturer gave students a lecture in economics.

A lecture in economics was given to the students.

Students were given a lecture in economics.

1. The manager promised to bring us an interesting literature about marketing. 2. The teacher told students the story about the capital of Great Britain – London. 3. They showed us an interesting newsreel. 4. Our partners have sold new equipment to many eastern countries. 5. We had planned our departure beforehand. 6. They are publishing their articles at the moment in the office. 7. We shall invite them to take part in the conference. 8. They spoke about the vacant positions at the company meeting. 9. The students listened to the professor with great interest. 10. His assistant will have met the foreign delegation at the airport by the evening.

Exercise 17. Use the correct tense-form and voice of the verbs in brackets:

1. Much attention (to pay) to foreign languages in the higher educational establishments. 2. The official documents (to look through) this morning by the supervisor. 3. The business news (to announce) by the radio before we came home. 4. This problem (to solve) by this time tomorrow at the talks. 5. The experiments (to carry out) when the designer came into the lab. 6. The conference (to held) either in the conference hall or in the business club. 7. Some points (to take up) yesterday at the meeting with our business colleagues. 8. These enterprises (to visit) by the Japanese delegation this week. 9. After the results of their work (to publish) we (to find out) that the device constructed by our new engineer (to use) by them. 10. He (to agree) to take part in the research work after he (to realize) that the improvement of toys production (to do) by the end of a quarter.

Exercise 18. Translate the following sentences in Passive:

1. Ярмарка споживчих товарів була успішно проведена до початку нового сезону. 2. Цей контракт не буде підписано до початку року. 3. Факс з інформацією про нові ціни на продукт ще не отримали. 4. Нещодавно результати тестів були оголошені студентам. 5. Навесні 2010 року було впроваджено нову стратегію розвитку компанії. 6. Всі запрошення на презентацію нової лінії виробництва вже надіслано. 7. Доповідь президента з економічної ситуації в країні буде завершена до п’ятої години. 8. Обладнання було виготовлене на нашому підприємстві з використанням інноваційних технологій. 9. Знижки на товар повсякденного попиту було надано оптовим торговцям . 10. Привабливі ціни на супутні товари для споживачів будуть встановлені до початку року.
