Значение к рассмотрению: убеждать. Оба глагола в своей взаи­мозаменяемости создают скрытый подтекст: to convince – это обра­щение к здравому смыслу, to persuade подталкивает к конкретному действию:

Лечить, оказывать медицинскую помощь, проводить курс лече­ния, включающий в себя пошаговые медицинские манипуляции (н­р, первичный осмотр, обработка ран, курс приема лекарств и т. п.). To treat – это сам процесс лечения, не гарантирующий успешного излечения:
• The doctor treats your disease but not necessarily cures it. – Врач лечит вашу болезнь, но необязательно вылечит ее.
• A person must be treated in order to be cured. – Человека надо лечить для того, чтобы вылечить.

61. To decline – to decrease – to lessen – to reduce
Значение к рассмотрению: уменьшать(ся). Во избежание смыс­ловой и грамматической путаницы с заявленными глаголами важно знать, кто из них переходный глагол, а кто – нет.
После переходного глагола всегда стоит прямое дополнение в виде существительного или местоимения. Единственное, что мо­жет их разделять, это артикль или прилагательное:
• He ate an apple. – Он съел яблоко.
У непереходного глагола дополнения нет. После него могут сто­ять предлоги, прилагательные или наречия:
• They laughed at him. – Они смеялись над ним.
• The food smells good. – Еда хорошо пахнет.
• He works hard. – Он много работает.
Взаимозаменяемость to decline и to decrease:
– to decline/decrease by sth – уменьшаться/сокращаться на
какую-либо величину;

Формальный непереходный глагол to decline обозначает ‘прихо­дить в упадок, ухудшаться, становиться слабее, снижаться’ в прямом и переносном смысле и всегда подчеркивает ухудшение ситуации.
1) Уменьшаться, сокращаться; приходить в упадок в результате потери темпов экономического развития, потери качества или стан­дартов; syn. – to decrease (непереходный):

Формальное to decrease в значении ‘уменьшать(ся), сок ра­щать(ся)’ может быть переходным и непереходным глаголом одно­временно. Обычно подразумевает длительное или нарастающее численное уменьшение количества. Используется чаще в экономи­ческом или техническом контексте; ant. – to increase:
• You should decrease the amount of fat they eat. – Вы должны сократить/уменьшить количество потребляемого жира.
