Дополнительные придаточные предложения (Object Clauses)
Дополнительные придаточные предложения выполняют в сложном предложении функцию прямого или предложного косвенного дополнения. Они отвечают на вопросы what? что? about what? о чем? for what? за что? и т.д. дополнительные придаточные предложения соединяются с главным предложением теми же союзами и союзными словами, что и придаточные предложения подлежащие и сказуемые:
He told us that he felt ill.
Он сказал нам, что чувствует себя больным.
They laughed at what he said.
Они смеялись над тем, что он сказал.
I’ll ask him to find out where they live.
Я попрошу его узнать, где они живут.
Определительные придаточные предложения (Attributive Clauses)
Определительные придаточные предложения выполняют в сложном предложении функцию определения и отвечают на вопросы what? which? какой? Они соединяются с главным предложением следующими союзными словами: местоимениями who который (whom которого), whose чей, которого, which, that который, а также и наречиями when когда, where где, куда, why почему:
The man who was here yesterday is a painter.
Человек, который был здесь вчера, художник.
I know the man whom you mean.
Я знаю человека, которого вы имеете в виду.
Our representative, whose letter I showed you yesterday, will return to Moscow at the end of the week.
Наш представитель, письмо которого я показал вам вчера, возвратится в Москву в конце недели.
Определительное придаточное предложение непосредственно следует за тем существительным в главном предложении, к которому оно относится.
К определительным придаточным предложениям принадлежат также предложения, относящиеся не к отдельному слову, а к предшествующему предложению в целом. Такие определительные предложения вводятся относительным местоимением which, которое в этом случае соответствует русскому относительному местоимению что. Они всегда отделяются запятой:
He came to see me off, which was very kind of him.
Он пришел проводить меня, что было очень любезно с его стороны.
Обстоятельственные придаточные предложения
(Adverbial Clauses)
Обстоятельственные придаточные предложения выполняют в сложном предложении функцию различных обстоятельств.
По своему значению они делятся на обстоятельственные предложения: времени, места, причины, следствия, образа действия, уступительные, цели, условия.
Придаточные предложения времени
(Adverbial Clauses of Time)
Придаточные предложения времени отвечают на вопросы when? когда? since when? с каких пор? how long? как долго? Они соединяются с главным предложением союзами when когда, whenever всякий раз когда, while в то время как, пока, as когда, в то время как, по мере того как, after после того как, before прежде чем, до того как, till, until пока, до тех пор пока … (не), as soon as как только, since с тех пор как и др.:
As I was going down the road, I met your sister.
Когда я шел по улице, я встретил вашу сестру.
After the agreement had been signed, the delegation left Moscow.
После того как соглашение было подписано делегация уехала из Москвы.
Придаточные предложения времени иногда вводятся также следующими словами и словосочетаниями, выполняющими функцию союзов: the moment в тот момент когда, the day в тот день когда, the evening в тот вечер когда, at the time в то время когда, by the time к тому времени когда и др.:
The moment I saw him I understood that something had happened.
В тот момент, когда я его увидел, я понял, что что-то случилось.
Придаточные предложения места
(Adverbial Clauses of Place)
Придаточные предложения места отвечают на вопросы where? где? куда? from where? откуда? Они соединяются с главным предложением союзными словами where где, куда, wherever где бы ни, куда бы ни:
I like to spend my leave where I can shoot. Я люблю проводить отпуск там, где я могу охотиться.
He went where the doctor sent him. Он поехал туда, куда послал врач.
Придаточные предложения причины
(Adverbial Clauses of Cause)
Придаточные предложения причины отвечают на вопрос why? почему? Они соединяются с главным предложением союзами because потому что, as так как, since поскольку, for так как, ибо, now that теперь когда, поскольку и др.:
I went away because there was no one there. Я ушел, так как там никого не было.
As there were no porters, we had to carry the luggage ourselves.
Так как не было носильщиков, нам пришлось нести багаж самим.
Придаточные предложения следствия
(Adverbial Clauses of Result)
Придаточные предложения следствия выражают следствие, вытекающее из всего содержания главного предложения. Они соединяются с главным предложением союзами so that так что. Вместо so that в разговорной речи часто употребляется so:
He went to the lecture early so that (so) he got a good seat.
Он пошел на лекцию рано, так что он занял хорошее место.
Придаточные предложения уступительные
(Adverbial Clauses of Concession)
Уступительные придаточные предложения указывают на обстоятельство, вопреки которому совершается действие главного предложения. Они соединяются с главным предложением союзами though (although) хотя, in spite of the fact that несмотря на то что, whoever кто бы ни, whatever что бы ни, какой бы ни, however как бы ни и др.:
Though it was only nine o’clock, there were few people in the streets.
Хотя было только девять часов, на улицах было мало народу.
He went out in spite of the fact that he had a bad cold.
Он вышел несмотря на то, что он был очень простужен.
Следует выделить особый тип уступительных придаточных предложений с союзом as ( обратите внимание на порядок слов):
Late as it was, we decided to go there. Хотя и было поздно, мы решили пойти туда.
Tired as I was, I began to work. Хотя я и был усталым, я начал работать.
