Text. Siberian State University of Physical Education and Sport
The history of Siberian State University of Physical Education and Sport
started more than 70 years ago. The first physical education institute was
established in Siberia (in Tomsk) in 1920. But it existed only until 1923 owing to
economic difficulties of that time. In September of 1950 100 young men and
women (a half of which were the graduates of technical school of physical
education) began to study.

From June, 7th, 1994 Omsk State Institute of Physical Education was
renamed into the Siberian State Academy of Physical Education. In 2000 the Siberian State Academy of Physical Education and Sport had its anniversary.
Since 2003 the new historical report of time has begun. From 2003 Siberian
State Academy of Physical Education was renamed into Siberian State University
of Physical Education and Sport.
Siberian State University of Physical Education and Sport is the largest educational, scientific, sport, methodical center which carries out multilevel preparation,
retraining and improvement of professional skills of specialists in the field of physical
education and sport. Its graduates can be met not only in the Urals, in Siberia and
in the Far East, but also in villages and cities of the European part of Russia.
The university trains specialists in physical culture and sports for the vast
territory of Siberia and the Far East giving a qualification of a coach and a school
teacher in physical culture and the title of a Bachelor or a specialist in physical culture and sport.
Students have good accommodations for study, trainings, rehabilitation and
rest. There are 5 buildings for study, computer halls, and libraries. Students have all
necessary sport facilities: track-and-field indoor stadium, swimming pools, sport
halls for wrestling, boxing, gymnastics, badminton, volleyball, basketball, handball,
skating rinks, football fields, hockey grounds, tennis courts, an integrated swimming
centre, a stadium with football fields and tracks, 25 sport halls, classrooms, laboratories with technology-based aids. Students and faculty members can use a modern library which is a united information system with modern software. The library
has the richest collection of books, newspapers and magazines.
Faculty members of the university constantly improve the system of specialist preparing. It allows the university to prove its competence and earn great reputation in the field of physical education both in our country and abroad.
Siberian State University of Physical Education and Sport includes 5 faculties (1. Faculty of Sport, 2. Faculty of Physical Education, 3. ScientificPedagogical Faculty, 4. Faculty of Vocational Education, 5. Extramural Tuition
Faculty), 13 chairs, scientific and research institute of human being’s activity in
extreme conditions, dissertation council, historical and sport museum, advanced
courses for coaches and other subdivisions and auxiliary services. Each faculty is
headed by a dean.

Owing to the qualified faculty members and good scientific potential, graduates are always job-marketable and approve themselves worthily in different social
and economical fields of the country.
The university fulfils post-graduate training in magistrate, post-graduate
course, doctorate, Institute of Improvement of Professional Skills for teachers and
coaches. The university has a special council to defend candidate and doctor theses.
Bachelor, Master and Post-graduate students take part in conferences of all
levels (university, all-Russian, International, etc.)
Students and graduates defend the honour of the university on sport arenas.
Many students participated in Olympic Games and became Olympic champions
and World champions. For example: Alexander Karelin (three-time Olympic Champion in Greco-Roman wrestling), Viktor Mamatov (two-time Olympic Champion in
biathlon), Irina Chaschina (Silver medalist of the Olympic Games), Aleksey
Tischenko (two-time Olympic Champion in boxing), Vitalina Batsarashkina (twotime Olympic Champion in shooting) and many others.
