1. Hello, I’m Vadim Zhukov, and
I’m going to tell you about my working day.
2. As a rule, I’m very busy every
day, and my working day schedule is
very tight.
3. As my classes begin at 8 in the
morning, I have to get up quite early.
4. My alarm clock wakes me up at
6:45 AM.
5. I make my bed, then I take a
shower and go to the kitchen to have
breakfast.
6. To be honest, I’m not a great
eater in the morning, so as a rule it’s a
cheese sandwich with a cup of coffee
or tea.
7. After that I brush my teeth and
leave for school.
8. It takes me about 20 minutes to
get to school – I usually walk there.
9. Every day I have 6 or 7 classes.
10. My favourite subjects at school
are mathematics, literature and English.

recordings of both classical and rock

day.
20. In the evening, when the whole
family gets together, we watch TV,
have a small talk and enjoy the rare
moments of rest.
21. I try to pack my things for the
next day before going to bed, and it
really makes my life easier.

TASK 1
Read the text.
WALKING ON SUNSHINE WITH EDDY GRANT
§ 1. Tall, dark and very handsome Eddy Grant is the calmest person I’ve
ever met. How does he manage to keep so cool? ‘It’s sport,’ he said. ‘I work
hard and I play hard – I have to. It relaxes me, and I love to be fit because
when you’re fit, everything works for you. Fit people are always successful
because they care about themselves.’
§ 2. But if sport’s so important for Eddy, why has he never turned professional? ‘I discovered it too late,’ he answered. ‘You need to start when you’re
very young. But I love to keep fit because it’s all part of making you a successful person. Success isn’t simply a question of money – it’s health and
happiness – and however rich you are, if you aren’t happy, you’re not a success.’
§ 3. However, Eddy Grant is a success in every sense of the word. He’s
been a hit-maker since the late sixties, and he lives a rock star’s life. Although
a British citizen, Eddy now lives in beautiful Barbados, a tropical island in
the Caribbean Sea. ‘I always said when I finally got it together – financially
and careerwise
– I’d get up and go! I hate the cold weather in England – I’m
at my best when I don’t have to wear many clothes!’
§ 4. ‘But don’t you ever feel out of touch with your fans when you’re so
far away?’ I suggested. ‘What my audience wants,’ smiled Eddy, ‘is good
music. You can make that anywhere, but I make it best in Barbados because
I’m not shivering
or freezing to death!’
§ 5. All the same, you might imagine Eddy would want to keep up with
all the latest sounds in Britain – but you’d be wrong. ‘Obviously, I hear the
latest music on the radio, but I never listen too much because I don’t want it
to influence me. It’s like your jacket,’ he added, pointing to my very ordinary
Levi’s jacket. ‘It’s a good jacket now, and it was a good jacket when it was
first in fashion, nearly thirty years ago. When you have a good product, it’s
above fashion, and that’s exactly the way I want my music to be.’
