выражение чаще всего употребляется после упоминания двух объектов или временных дат (сроков), между которыми имеется некий промежуток (two rooms and a wall in between; I’ll do it somehow on Monday and Sunday in between).
Перевод на английский выражений с предлогом между в основном не представляет трудностей. Поэтому ниже приводятся лишь несколько примеров перевода, а также небольшое количество выражений со значением между, которые переводятся с помощью фразеологических оборотов.
Автор обращает внимание студентов-филологов (и начинающих переводчиков), что предлог between употребляется для характеристики положения субъекта или объекта относительно только двух других субъектов или объектов или двух элементов одного субъекта или объекта (например: a ball between the footballer’s feet).
Однако если в предложении указывается положение субъектов или объектов относительно группы других субъектов или объектов, то вместо between употребляется предлог among (amongst). Следует при этом иметь в виду, что если в таких предложениях используются слова difference, interaction, relation, relationship, то в значении между употребляется предлог between.
