Структура й властивості покриття.

Двусерністо-молібдено-титановий склад покриття має твердість від 1200 до 2000 ВГНН, що залежить від титанової складової. Спочатку вважали, що метод осадження утворить багатошарову або суперрешітчасту структуру і це є поясненням високої твердості. Однак, як показано на малюнку 1, багатошарової структури тут немає. Неможливо виявити елементний титан у покритті ні у вигляді шарів, ні як окремі частки. Всі докази вказують на те, що титан присутній у розчиненому вигляді у двусерністо-молібденовій решітці і передбачається, що деформації, що виникають у кристалічних решітках, пояснюють високу твердість. Структура є аморфною, або така, що складається з дуже малих кристалів. Адгезія дуже висока й неможливо ініціювати ніяке руйнування при стандартних випробуваннях при навантаженні до 140 Н. Коефіцієнт тертя залежить від навантаження, але звичайно становить 0,03 при найбільшому використовуваному навантаженні (100 Н, контактна напруга – близько 3,5 ГПа). Максимальний коефіцієнт тертя, зареєстрований при більш низьких навантаженнях – близько 0,1. Тертя також залежить від вологості, але навіть при високій вологості воно залишається все-таки низьким. Коефіцієнт зношування – близько 10^-17м³ (дивися нижче типові умови випробувань).
