LETTER №8
1. Read, translate and answer the questions:
Rossexport October 8, 2009
Moscow
Russia
Dear Sirs!
Further to our letter of 17
th
September and your subsequent
(последний, следующий) conversation with our representative
Mr Green in Moscow of 27
th
September, we have been trying to
decide on an order for … . As previously stated, the sales of your
shipments were late and it is not until recently that we had your
full range in stock and were able to start selling. Secondly, the
market has been very slow due to the general industrial situation
in the UK and doesn’t look like improving for this equipment until
the middle part of the next year.
In view of this, therefore, of the information we have received from your private talk with Mr Green, that you need to
have a planning order by 20
th
October, we have prepared a list of
engines which we anticipate (ожидать, рассчитывать) we would
require for shipment, half in the second and half in the third quarter of next year, and we are prepared to place an order on this basis, the terms being those of our previous contract № … of September 24, …
If you agree to this schedule, we would suggest that you
should reserve 1,500 engines as an option for shipment in 3
rd/4th
quarter, which would be declarable (предъявлены) by us by January 31, … and we would then be able to give you full details of this
further quantity.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours respectfully
Kelly&Son

LETTER №9
1. Read, translate and answer the questions:
Rossexport March 20, 2009
Dear Sirs,
This will confirm our telephone conversation of March, 16.
We discussed once again the possible sale of Russian made machine-tools through our company.
After studying your literature we chose machine-tools models
15, 30 and 31 on which we would like to have complete proposals
giving the full description of the machines, the price and delivery.
As you remember, we also discussed the possibility of my
visiting Moscow for having discussions with Rossexport on some
technical points including after-sales service and maintenance.
I feel it is first necessary to determine whether or not your prices are suitable for the American market. I hope you realize that the
price is an important factor. In order to introduce Russian machinetools to the American market, we would, in your opinion, have to
offer a lower price to our customers than they are now paying for
similar machines from Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Japan.
These exporters are well established on the American market, have spent considerable money on developing the machinetool market. Undoubtedly, they have a competitive advantage on
any company which is just beginning to introduce Russian machines to this market.
Our company is prepared to make some financial contribution to the sales programme (anyway for the first year or so).
Therefore we would much appreciate your views on arranging a showroom and the extent of advertisement to be made.
We look forward to receiving the above information before
we can proceed any further on the matter.
Truly yours,
Rossexport

LETTER 10
1. Read translate and answer the questions:
Rossimport November 26
We have just received your letter dated November 15 as well
as your telex relative to your specialists whom we have been expecting for training.
We wish to indicate that it may be necessary for us to request
additional payment for training your specialists depending upon
their exact time of arrival. For example, if they were to arrive during Christmas week, it would certainly be necessary to ask for additional payment.
Also we want to assure you that we will continue to make
every possible effort to assist in having visas issued to your specialists.
At this time we must have at least three weeks’ notice before
the date of arrival of your specialists so that we can reorganize the
training programme and reassemble the required individuals to
provide the training.
Since this means that the earliest your specialists could arrive will be the last week in December, and since our Christmas
holidays fall on that week, we suggest that the arrival of your specialists on January 6 should be more suitable.
We’ll look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Cordially yours …

I am writing re our order for 1,000 pieces of footwear. The
money was transferred to your account on 23 January and we yet
haven’t received the goods. You promised in your e-mail of 15 Dec
that you would ship within 7 days of a firm order.
I have called your office this morning but the secretary told
me that you were away until tomorrow. (Thursday). Please call me
in the morning and let me know what is happening. We have customers waiting for these pieces and the delay is causing us for to
loose business.
E-mail 2
It has been brought to my attention that security in the building
is not so good as it could be. As you may be aware, one of our secretaries had her bag stolen yesterday. In the light of this, I would like to
remember you to take care of your personal possessions, particular at
those times of the day when the building is not busy.
I am going to prepare a report on how security could be improved, and I could be grateful for any suggestions that you have.
Please e-mail me with your ideas by the end of next week at
the later. I also have a word with our security staff in reception to
see if there are any procedures we can improve there.

I am e-mailing you off your website, which I found through
Google.
Your early reply would be greatly appreciated.
We would be grateful to you for some information about the
legal services that your firm offers.

We are very sorry to hear that the service you received from
our company was not up to the usual standard. Unfortunately, a lot

taken to bring this matter to our attention and as we value our good
customer relations, we are willing to give you one week’s fee maintenance. I apologize again for any inconveniences caused.
E-mail 5
Further to your last e-mail, I am happy to provide you with

to clarify any other questions that you might have.

here in France. May I suggest that I call you at your convenience to

Please let me know when would be a convenient time.

We will be aware that we have been interviewing candidates
for the position of Marketing Director. I am now pleased to inform
that we have appointed an excellent candidate, Simone Verdy. Simone has worked in marketing for over fifteen years and I am sure
that she will be a valuable member of our team.
I would like to invite you to a short lunchtime in Conference

Hi Toby
Hope you are well,
I’ve got a bit of a problem, and I’d really like your advice.
You know I am doing that secretarial course. Well, it’s really boring and I hate it. I have already paid for the course and it runs till
the end of June. Do you have any ideas about what I should do?
Please, e-mail me, or give me a call when you get a chance.

Thank you for your help during the conference on the future
of the airline industry that I attended in London last week. Your
help was really appreciated as I had never been to the UK before
and everything was very new to me!
The conference was really interesting. Of course, while I was
there I also had the great pleasure to meet your UK sales team. They
are a wonderful group of people and I would like you to give my regards to all them. As you know, there are plans, to bring some of the
UK staff over here to Dubai at the end of the year to see how we run
the Dubai office. I look forward to seeing you then.

Hi Tim! Thanks for your e-mail which I received some time
ago. Sorry, I haven't replied before now, I΄ve been really busy. Actually, it is good news – I've got a job! I went for loads of interviews and finally I was successful – I am working for a small independent record company. The job is very interesting – I help to
organize tours for the groups, make arrangements for their accommodation, in the cities where they play.
I have been doing this since the beginning of February and I
should say that it differs greatly from my previous job in the restaurant. It is a good opportunity for me! I am going to get more
possibilities so and more money. Then I could even think about
visiting you in England. Anyway, keep in touch, I look forward to
seeing you soon.
E-mail 13
Your visit to our hotel last Tuesday was very useful, and I
now have the agreement of my line manager to go ahead with the
contract. I am attaching our order as a Word file. Please acknowledge receipt of this e-mail and give us a delivery date.
