Task I. Translate into English/Consecutive translation in the class.

Task IV. Work in pairs (to be done in writing).

  1. a) You are a charterer's broker. A ship about 10,000 dwt is required to lift grain in bulk from A to B. Write an offer to an owner's broker indicating the charterer's idea of freight rate and position required.

b) You are the owner's broker having a bulker open. Write a counter-offer indicating ship's particulars and the owner's idea of freight rate.

c) Write that you accept or decline the counter-offer on behalf of the charterer.

2. a) You are an owner's broker having a general cargo ship of about 20, 000 dwt open. Write an offer to some charterer's brokers who may be interested indicating your owner's idea of freight rate.

b) You are the charterer's broker who is interested. Write a counter-offer indicating kind and quantity of cargo, ports of loading/discharging, position required, the charterer's idea of freight rate.

c) Accept or decline the counter-offer on behalf of the owner.

Task V. Suggest your versions of correspondence exchange.

Task VI. Make/answer telephone calls (pair work).

1. a) You are a shipowner requiring employment for your vessel (s) open. Call a reliable shipbroker. Describe your vessel (s). Give the position (s) and your idea of freight rate.

b) Your are the broker the owner is calling. You have some cargo

to be carried from... to. Give the particulars of the cargo. Discuss freight

rates.

Task VII. Read the following business letters paying attention to their style and sum up the contents of each of them.

a. Instructions to a forwarding agent

Could you please pick up a consignment of 20 C2000 computers and make the necessary arrangements for them to be shipped to Mr. M.Tanner, N.Z. Business Machines Pty., 100 South Street Wellington, New Zealand?
