To Master of M/V «Vasiliy Surikov»
Dear Captain,
Re: Declaration of articles by crew to Customs
For some time in the past we have been having a lot of troubles with Customs because of crew members' failure to declare their articles to the appropriate Customs officials while onboard.
To prevent such troubles in future we would appreciate you appeal to all your crew members to make correct declarations of whatever they have in their possession to the Customs. And having made such a declaration the articles should be surrendered for sealing up by the Customs immediately.
It may be necessary to emphasize that it is a serious offence in this port to find articles not declared as stated above in possession of any. crew after the Customs officials have left the ship.
Yours faithfully,
For: ALRAINE (NIGERIA) LIMITED.

To the Master
of M/V «Kropotkin»
in the port of Buenos Aires
Dear Sir,
We specially recommended in order to avoid fines from port authorities to set up required-by-rules «rats-trap» discs (circular brass of 80 cm. diameter) in all mooring ropes. In those cases where the ropes position does not allow to place the disc (such as in the spring) the corresponding fairleader must be plugged with a fender or similar.
Also, the gangway must be fully illuminated at nights and especially somewhat high from berth while vessel is not operating.
Very truly yours,
