§ 4. Правила чтения английских гласных в ударном cлоге
Чтение гласной буквы в слове зависит от того, в соседстве с какими другими буквами она находится. В соответствии с позицией гласной выделяется 4 типа ее чтения.
Первый тип чтения гласных
По первому типу чтения гласная читается так, как называется в алфавите.

Гласная читается по первому типу чтения, когда:
1) является единственной и последней буквой в слове: try, so, me, be;
2)за ней следует одна согласная буква и снова гласная, в том числе и нечитаемая е в конце слова (буква е в конце английских слов не читается, если она не является единственной гласной в слове): open, duty, page, case;
3)за ней следует буквенный комплекс, состоящий из согласной и сочетания lе, заканчивающего слова: table, noble.
