Порядок слов в специальных вопросах такой же, как и в общих вопросах, но в отличие от них перед вспомогательным глаголом стоит вопросительное слово (или группа слов). Специальное слово (группа слов) заменяет тот член предложения, к которому задается вопрос.

В вопросах, относящихся к подлежащему, вопросительные слова who? (кто?), what? (что?) заменяют подлежащее. В таких вопросах сохраняется порядок слов повествовательного предложения.

Порядок слов повествовательного предложения сохраняется также в вопросах, относящихся к определению подлежащего.

Ответы на вопросы, относящиеся к подлежащему или его определению, обычно даются в краткой форме. Они состоят из подлежащего, выраженного существительным или местоиме-

My partner and I go to visit the nightclubs in our patrol zone. It‟s always a good idea to check how many customers they have. They escort two men out. One has a cut above his eye. The other, the barman tells us, is the offender. I take details and telephone the station to check if there is space in custody. Then, I arrest the man for assault and handcuff him. A male officer then searches him, and I take him into custody to book him in.
