I AM A FUTURE POLICE OFFICER

I am a first - year cadet of the Far East Russian Federation Home Ministry Law Institute. We are future police officers – detectives and investigators for the agencies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Some of us

are future detectives of the Criminal Detection Department. Others are future investigators of the Criminal Investigation Department.

Training at our college is difficult but interesting. According to the regulations of the Russian police the trainees are to wear special police uniform.

Our future profession is law, crime detection and crime investigation. So, the main task of our cadets is to

study well to become professionals. That is why at our institute we are to study a lot of different subjects. We are to master both general and special

subjects. Special subjects such as crime detection, criminal law, criminal procedure, crime psychology and so on are necessary for our future work. General subjects such as history of Russia, philosophy and foreign languages are to enrich our world-outlook.

Besides we are to get professional skills and abilities – to drive a car, to use the weapon, to interview witnesses and to interrogate criminals, and to inspect a crime scene. They are to help us to perform well under operational conditions.

As one of the principles of the effective educational system is to unite theory and practice, practical instructions, lectures and seminars at the institute, practice in police bodies are also in the cadets‟ training programs.

They are to help our cadets get necessary knowledge, life and professional experience as well as to become specialists in law enforcement sphere.

ate courses for those who strive for further education and initial training courses for those who start their careers as law enforcement workers.

To enter the Institute the applicants are to pass entrance exams successfully as well as to have interviews and special psychological tests.

The students of our college have all conditions for getting a good education. Many law enforcement experts of great practical experience, Masters and Doctors of

Law, assistant – professors and professors work at our institute. They deliver lectures, give our students professional specialization and provide them with general and special education.

Our institute has many specially equipped classrooms, laboratories, lecture-halls, gymnasiums with all necessary sport equipment, libraries which are effective for proper training. Our cadets have drill grounds, a firearms range and a

camp for field training at their disposal. There are also several hostel buildings and the canteen on the campus.

The term of training at the RF Far East Home Ministry Law Institute is five years. The academic year is divided into two terms. At the end of

each term students take examinations: midterm exams in winter and final exams in summer. During the academic year the students are to work hard. The working day of our students begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. Every day students have lectures, seminars, and tutorials. During the course of studies they get knowledge not only of special subjects, such as introduction into speciality, history and theory of state and law, criminal, civil, international and administrative laws, crime detection, criminalistics and criminology but also of general subjects, such as logic, history of Russia, philosophy and some others.

All students learn some foreign language – English or Chinese. Most of them learn English. It is necessary for a modern person and a qualified specialist to know some foreign language nowadays. After classes the cadets can go in for sport, have scientific societies and various clubs.

After the graduation the students get diplomas of lawyers and become the lieutenants of police and justice.
