§ 2. Конструкция there be

Конструкция there be указывает на наличие (или отсутствие) чего-либо или кого-либо и, как правило, переводится на русский язык глаголами быть, иметься, находиться, существовать, стоять, лежать, висеть, располагаться и т.п.

Конструкция there be употребляется в Present Simple (there is/are), Past Simple (there was/were), Future Simple (there will be)

и других глагольных формах с существительными в единственном или во множественном числе.

Перевод предложения с этой конструкцией следует начинать с обстоятельства, если оно есть в предложении.

There is a policeman at the door.

У двери находится/стоит полицейский.

There was a police station over there.

Вон там находился полицейский участок.

There are different types of crime.

Существуют различные виды преступности.

There will be some reports referring to crime prevention.

Будет несколько докладов на тему предотвращения преступлений.

Отрицательные предложения с конструкцией there be могут быть построены при помощи отрицательной частицы not или местоимения no:

There wasn‟t a car near the place of burning.

There isn‟t any evidence at the crime scene.

There will be no limits of time.

В вопросительных предложениях глагол be ставится перед there. Если глагол be употреблен в сложной глагольной форме, то перед there ставится вспомогательный глагол:

Краткие ответы на вопрос с конструкцией there be состоят из

yes или no и конструкции there be в утвердительной или отрицательной форме:

Is there a Home Ministry Law Institute in your town?

- Yes, there is.

– No, there isn‟t.

Will there be many exams this term?

- Yes, there will.

– No, there won‟t.

Глагол be в конструкции there be может употребляться также в сочетании с модальными глаголами can, must, may, ought и т.д.:

There can be no doubt about it.

В этом не может быть никакого сомнения.

There must be special methods of crime solution.

Должны существовать особые методы раскрытия преступлений.

В конструкции there be после there может употребляться не только глагол be, но и некоторые другие непереходные глаголы, приближающиеся по значению к be: live (жить), exist (существовать), stand (стоять), lie (лежать) и др.:

There exist different opinions on this case.

There lived an experienced judge in this town some years ago.
