Bridge to clinical psychology. Часть I. Учебное пособие для студентов факультета клинической психологии
.pdfSolutions to help medical students with stress include improving orientation, better counseling, and more support.
Stress is necessary to challenge students to learn. Approaches are needed that reduce the negative aspects of stress which lessen students’ learning and performance. The key to reducing distress is providing students with feeling of control over their education, information about what to expect, and feedback regarding what can be done to improve their performance.
Good teaching can not be overestimated as a key to preventing and minimizing distress among students.
Most of all, faculty should not only have a thorough understanding of stress but should also demonstrate the ability to implement appropriate practices in their own lives, thus modeling positive stress management for their students and clients. Those who help students deal effectively with stress are performing a service of lasting value, as healthy stress management is one of the most important life-long learning skills that an individual may acquire.
Dealing with the actual stressful situations or events can be strengthened by providing students with early success.

RECOGNIZING STRESSORS
There can be innumerable stress factors since different individuals react differently to the same stress conditions. It is known that major life events such as a divorce, death, midlife crisis, financial worries, persistent strain of caring for a chronically sick child, nagging health problems or managing a physically or mentally challenged family member can act as potential stressors. Even conditions such as prolonged unemployment or a sudden lay-off from a job can leave you under tremendous stress.
Though anger, fear and other negative emotional reactions are natural and necessary we need to channel them constructively to create a balanced state in our body and mind.
It is said that life acts and you react. Our attitude is our reaction to what life hands out to us. A significant amount of stress symptoms can be avoided or aroused by the way we relate to stressors. Stress is created by what we think rather than by what has actually happened.
We cope better with stressful situation, when we face with them voluntarily. But, when we are forced into such situations against our
167
will or knowledge, more often than not, we get weaker at the face of unknown and imagined threats.
Stress management is the need of the hour. Like «stress reactions», «relaxation responses» stress management techniques are some of the body’s important response systems. It is important to recognize whether you are under stress or out of it. Many times, even if we are under the influence of a stressful condition and our body reacts to it internally as well as externally, we fail to realize that we are reacting under stress. This also happens when the causes of stress are there long enough for us to get habituated to them. The body constantly tries to tell us through symptoms such as rapid palpitation, dizzy spells, tight muscles or various body aches that something is wrong. It is important to remain attentive to such symptoms and to learn to cope with the situations.

Musical therapy
This therapy employs sound in an organized or rhythmic form to relieve the stressed out nerves and brain, relaxing the mind-body as a whole. Certain sounds have telling effect upon the state of our brain. Most of the sounds heard in the world today are «discharging» sounds, draining the brain of its vital energy. Sound therapy is a method of beneficially recharging the cortex of the brain and distributing the latent energy throughout the nervous system. Usu-
