Learning foreign languages

I want to tell you about the role of foreign languages in our life.

The problem of learning foreign languages is very important today. Foreign languages are necessary, especially at present time, as the mean of information exchange between the people.

Today English is the language of the world. Over 350 (three hundred and fifty million) people speak it as a mother language and more than 450 million people can speak it as a second language. The native speakers of English live in Great Britain, in the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand. English is one of the official languages in the Irish Republic, Canada and the South African Republic. As a second language it is used in the former British and US colonies.

English is the major international language for communication in such fields as science, technology, business and mass entertainment. English is one of the official languages of the United Nations Organization and other political organizations. It is the language of computer software literature, education and modern music.

Learning any foreign language is not an easy thing. It is a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience. But to know English is absolutely necessary nowadays for every educated person, for every good specialist. It is well known that reading books in the original, communicating with the English-speaking people will help a lot. When learning a foreign language you learn the culture and history of the native speakers. One must work hard to learn any foreign language.
