The History Of The Air Conditioning.

In 1959 when GoldStar produced the first in Korea radioreceiver A-501 the country was suffering from a great crisis connected with the predominance of import goods and with the reduction of demand on radioreceivers. The government approved a new salutary program of sending radioreceivers into the rural areas. Then GoldStar invented the first in Korea fan D-301, refrigerator GR-120 and black and white TV set. It was the prehistory of the development of the trend of air conditioning.

In 1968 the first washing machine, air conditioner and elevator were produced. The production of the first GoldStar air conditioners was started up with a powerful technical support of the corporation General Electric.

The first private research center was opened in Korea in 1976. The great industrial complex was built with the support of the Government of Korea. The plant in Kumi was opened in 1975 and the plants in Changwon and Kuro were built some years later. The volume of export exceeded US $ 100 mln in 1978.

In 1984 “Established Changwon Electric Research Lab.” was opened. From that moment GoldStar advanced in the production of the household air conditioners and made efforts to introduce all its production in the world market.

In 1985 GoldStar was the first in Korea (and one of the first in the world) who began to produce air conditioners Inventor Heat Pump. In 1990 the concept of the development of R&D (research base) appeared.

In September 1990 the first washing machine with artificial intelligence was worked out. The technology of the artificial intelligence was expended on new video tape recorder, heater, air conditioner and microwave oven.

In 1991 the technology Neuro-Fuzzy Control was applied in production of the air conditioners. In 1992 the department “Air Conditioners” was established in the company. It should be noted that this event took place when “the trend of conditioning” began to increase rapidly in the world. As a result of the foundation of the special trend there were two important changes in the production of conditioners, occurred in 1990s, i.e.

- the considerable extension of the range of produced air conditioners (from the household window conditioners to the wall split-systems at the beginning up to the full set of half-industrial and industrial conditioners to the end of 1990s);

  • the usage of new technologies in conditioning.

In the period of 90s the company worked out a number of successfully new technologies that became well known as:

  • Chaos Control – the system of deflection of the air flow from the inside conditioner that imitates natural wind;

  • Jet Cool – the forced regime for immediate cooling and heating of the premises;

  • Plasma Air Purifying Filter – a unique system of cleaning air in the room;

  • Gold FIN and No Agin Fin – a special covering of heat converter, which increase its rust preventive properties and service life and allowed to decrease considerably the level of noise from the conditioner.

During this period new technologies came into use in the production of approximately all conditioners of the company of either household or industrial tendency.

In 1993 the production of the conditioners got a certificate ISO 9001. It was a direct confirmation of high quality and efficiency of the production.

1996 was the year of substantial sales of conditioners in Russia yet under the trademark GoldStar. That year the company began to cooperate with one of the biggest provider of conditioners in Russia – the group of companies INROST.

In 1999 the declaration of new philosophy of the company Digital LG was adopted. It was a strategy into a digital epoch. On the 14th of Julie the company announced its general concept of further development. The main values of the corporation are innovation and partnership, which go side by side with such basic notions and investigations as marketing, design, technologies and Networking. The famous slogan “LG – Digitally Yours” becomes one of the outside displays of the concept. That year the volume of export of LG conditioners exceeded US $ 460 mln. The company won the third place in the world sales of household conditioners.

In 2001 LG developed the idea of “Digital Home” and produced a microwave oven and conditioner with Internet access.
