15. Match the word and its explanation:

1.petiole

a. it is a sharp, modified leaf, scale, or stipule. Cacti have this.

2.blade

b.it is a tissue in plant stems and roots. It transports water and minerals upwards from the roots to the stem, via capillary action. It is strong and also provides support to the plant.

3.stem

c.such leaf has a hand-like structure. It has more than three lobes that branch from a single point at the base of the leaf

4.xylem

d.it is a narrow, flat leaf.

5.phloem

e.it is an underground stem, usually globular, that has fleshy leaves emerging from the top and roots emerging from the bottom. The fleshy leaves store food. Examples include the tulip, narcissus, and onion.

i.it is the fatty or waxy outer layer of epidermal cells that are above ground.

10. spines

j.it is a leaf stalk. On a compound leaf, it extends from the stem to the first set of leaflets. A leaf without it is sessile.

11.bud scale

k.it is a modified leaf (or similar structure) that covers and protects the bud.

12.bulb

l.it is plant tissue that conducts nutrients (food) through the plant. In woody-stemmed plants, it is the inner layer of the bark.
