ours. Once I had a disagreement with my best friend on the
ground where to spend our holidays. In the end we couldn’t
avoid a severe conflict and parted. I wonder if our friend
ship was true.
Every day we can observe people arguing in the streets
and other public places. I am sure that small talks, quarrels
about nothing serious may cause sharp contradictions about
important issues. Several days ago I plunged into a silly dis
agreement with my friend on our way to the country house
where we were going to have a holiday party.
When we start to study at the university we often hear
the following words: “Students! Try to read as many books
as possible. It will help you in future. Don’t waste time on
finding out some job, you will do it afterwards”. On the
other hand, while applying for a job, you are always re
quired to have some experience. Thus it is not definitely
clear what to do during your study at the high school; either
to read a lot of books or work getting experience.
“Everything is moving, everything is changing,” said a
Greek philosopher. It isn’t a secret, that he was right. Life
proves that. Nature is changing, people are changing, and of
course, you are changing. As for me, I have changed physic
ally and mentally since my childhood. What has changed in
my appearance, my inner world, my attitude to life? It’s a
very tough question. Nevertheless, I’ll try to answer it.
“Knowledge is power,” said Francis Bacon, an English
philosopher. I think, he mentioned knowledge gained from
books. There is no doubt, knowledge gained from books is
as important as knowledge gained from experience. Would
you use the first source of knowledge or the second one —

it depends only on you. In my opinion, despite all ups and
downs of life I value my life experience: it makes me more
sophisticated and mature. I believe that “there is no gain
without pain.”
В Заключении вы можете предложить новое ви´дение
проблемы; напоследок поделиться с собеседником свои
ми мыслями, ощущениями. Однако главное — не увести
вашего слушателя в сторону. Новое ви´дение проблемы —
это хорошо; оно усиливает впечатление. Но оно должно
тесно переплетаться с темой и языковой функцией ваше
го ответа, быть его неотъемлемой, а не самостоятельной
частью. Новое видение проблемы — развернутый тезис,
который должен быть аргументирован всем предыдущим
содержанием вашего высказывания. Если вы начнете
вдруг говорить о чемто новом, никак не связанном с ва
шим главным тезисом или с темой, то ваш слушатель
потеряет нить повествования, тезис будет «размыт», а
собеседник обескуражен. Вы не добьетесь ничего хороше
го. Вместо того чтобы сделать вывод, логически завер
шить эссе, вы представите на суд вашего слушателя не
сколько несовершенных, незаконченных мыслей, о кото
рых в сообщении ничего не было сказано.
Не менее важно вызвать эмоциональный отклик у
вашего собеседника. Вы провели его за собой через все
высказывание, развернули тезис, теперь надо сделать
так, чтобы ответ ему запомнился. Вы преуспеете в этом,
если сможете пробудить его эмоции. Чтобы ответ остал
ся в памяти, он должен нести эмоциональноэкспрессив
ную нагрузку, затрагивать чувства, эмоции, заставлять
задуматься над тем, что и как.
Точно так же, как существует много способов завла
деть вниманием читателя во Введении, есть и методы,
позволяющие создать мощное Заключение. Самые рас

пространенные из них — рекомендация и призыв к дей
ствию или совет:
Главный тезис: I am sure animals should no longer be
used in medical research.
Рекомендация: Researchers must seek more efficient
methods that involve fewer animals, look for more humane
procedures and work towards developing completely new
forms of experimentation that do not call for animals.
Главный тезис: I am too concerned about the way we
live, and I place a lot of importance on reducing noise pol
lution in my neighbourhood.
Призыв к действию: If you are stressed and annoyed
by the background music in the shops and other public
places why not let your voice be heard? I really believe
that the government should put a stop to this irritating
music.
Главный тезис: I am too concerned about the way
we live, and I think about building up a great scientific
centre.
Совет: I advise to build a National Multidisciplinary
Research Institute (NMRI) for natural sciences and tech
nologies to protect Russian economy and develop interna
tional contacts.
Рекомендация: Take care of the environment, and the
environment will take care of you. If sustainable use of
raw materials were under control of the government, we
would provide the future generations with all the neces
sary things. The environment in which people can live,
work and enjoy a sense of wellbeing — the responsibil
ity is ours, today and tomorrow.
У вашего собеседника должно остаться чувство удо
влетворения от общения с вами, от ответа, услышанного

от вас. Тогда у вас больше вероятности добиться от
него понимания, убедить и заинтересовать его, привлечь
на свою сторону, завоевать его симпатии. Удачная
концовка — для него награда за время, потраченное
на общение с вами. Не подведите вашего слушателя.
Логически обоснованное и эмоционально окрашенное
Заключение способно вызвать у него ощущение, что он
не напрасно потратил время на вас и ваш ответ и, воз
можно, вынес коечто полезное для себя.
Итак, ваш ответ четко структурирован и главный те
зис достаточно аргументирован. Однако сами указанные
вами причины тоже нуждаются в аргументации: их не
обходимо проиллюстрировать на конкретных примерах
или подтвердить компетентным мнением специалистов.
При этом следует не забывать об использовании так на
зываемых переходов (transitions) — слов и выражений
для связи предложений и абзацев и разговорных клише
(conversational formulas) — слов и выражений для де
монстрации вашей заинтересованности и осведомленно
сти в данном вопросе.
Переходы
Переходы (transitions) — слова и фразы для связи
мыслей, которые помогают плавно переходить от пред
ложения к предложению, от абзаца к абзацу. Вот спи
сок наиболее употребительных слов и выражений:
• first, second, third, while, before, since, during, when,
until, as, later;
• firstly, secondly, thirdly, first and foremost, further
more, above all;
• so, because, therefore, hence, as a result, thus, conse
quently, accordingly;

Для того чтобы показать вашу осведомленность и за
интересованность в вопросе, можно использовать разго
ворные клише (conversational formulas). Они придают
речи эмоциональную окраску, плавность, естествен
ность и помогают создать впечатление, что все, о чем

зрения. Использование разговорных клише — одно из
непременных условий успеха на устном экзамене.

to me. My parents shower me with love and attention, thus I
always turn to them for help and advice. In our family a good
education is considered very important. Frankly speaking, I’m
