to do out – убирать, прибирать комнату, наводить порядок / to clean and tidy a place thoroughly.

•I’ve done my wardrobes out and given away all my old clothes.

to do out in – оформить, сделать (например: комнату в опреде-

ленном стиле) / to decorate a place in a certain color or style.

•The bedroom wasdoneoutinblue and looked very cold. Комната была сделана в голубых тонах и выглядела очень холодной.

to do over – покрыть, обмазать, переделать / to do something again.

•I don’t like it, so I have decided to do it over and paint it another color. Мне это не нравится, поэтому я решил переделать это и покрасить в другой цвет.

to do to – сделать кому-либо что-то, обращаться с кем-либо = to do by.

•Do as you would be done by. Поступай с другими так, как бы ты хотел, чтобы поступали с тобой.

to do up – 1) застегивать, завязывать, заворачивать / to fasten something, to tie.

2) ремонтировать, приводить в порядок / to renovate an old building or house.

саться чего-либо, кого-либо / is used to explain there is a connection from one thing to another.

2) хотеть, нуждаться / to want, to need.

•I could do with something to eat. I haven’t eaten since breakfast.

12. to drop

drop–капать, выступать каплями; резко снижаться, уменьшаться.

to drop back – отступать, отходить / to move back in a position / group.

•Andrea dropped back to third place when she fell off her bike.

to drop in (on) – зайти, заглянуть / to come without an appointment = to drop in/by/over.

•I hope you don’t mind me dropping in on you like this, only I was just passing and I thought we could have a quick cup of coffee.

13. to fall (fell, fallen)

to fall (fell, fallen) – падать, понижаться; оседать, обваливаться.

to fall apart –1) разваливаться, рассыпаться, сломаться / to break into pieces because it is badly made.

•It was a cheap dress. The first time I wore it, it fell apart. Это было дешевое платье. После первой носки оно разошлось по швам.

2) разваливаться (о группе, команде) / to stop working properly or efficiently.

•The group fell apart when two or three members left and no one replaced them. Группа развалилась, когда два или три ее члена ушли, и никто их не заменил.

to fall back on something – прибегнуть к чему-либо, к чьей-либо помощи to turn to somebody / something for help when everything else has failed, to use something reliable.

to fall behind – 1) отставать / to do something more slowly than others so that you are behind.

•I am afraid the roof will fall in if an earthquake hits the area.

to fall into – 1) принадлежать, относиться к какой-либо груп-

пе / to belong to that group or to be divided into (categories).

• This novel falls into the category of historical adventure. Этот ро-

ман относится к категории исторических приключений. 2) начинать что-либо / to begin; to enter a state.

•I fell into conversation with an interesting man on the train.

to fall off – 1) падать, отпадать, отделяться / to separate from something it was attached to.

•When I got home I was surprised to see that picture had fallen off the wall. Когда я пришел домой, я бы очень удивлен, когда увидел, что картина упала со стены.

2) уменьшаться, снижаться / to become less or lower.

to fall on – 1) нападать / to attack.

•The raider fell on the policeman. Налетчик набросился на по-

лицейского.

2) набрасываться на еду и т.д. / to eat hungrily.

to fall out – 1) to fall out (with) ссориться / to quarrel.

•She fell out with Peter because he came home late. Она поссори-

2)рассориться / to have an argument and no longer be friendly with

that person.
