Remember!

There are idiomatic phrases that express an unreal or imagined situation which are followed by a past tense (the subjunctive form of the verb) instead of the present tense one would otherwise expect. These include ’d rather… , wish…, suppose…, It’s (high) time…,

If only…, as though…, as if .

Remember! Would rather = I’d prefer

I would rather not have written that letter.

I ‘d rather you had passed the test

When the subject of” would rather” is also the subject of the following verb
