My occupation. By Makhov Dmitriy.
My occupation is an “engineer-manager” and the
specialization is “Technology of innovative management”. It is
connected both with techniques and technology as well as with
economics, especially with management. My work will be
searching for new technologies, discoveries; bringing them to the
modern market, management of this process and replacing
outdated gadgets, tools, technologies by the modern, the most
innovative and ensuring their effective application.
They say that Russia takes the path of innovative
development, so my occupation can be supposed to be of great
demand. But knowing about characteristic aspiration for our
country to leave everything as it was for maintaining stability
without bringing disorder into the settled system; I think my
professional future is not so cheerful and cloudless.

Computer security
After graduation from a secondary school I entered
Moscow State University of Railway Engineering. My specialty is
called «Computer security». It is very modern, interesting and very
much claimed both in our country and abroad.
After five years and a half I will be a highly qualified
mathematician specialized in computers and everything connected
with them. For the first two years I was taught by old and wise
professors. They were teaching us not only how to deal with their
subject. They were teaching us how to think. My specialty is
closely connected with math and computers. Now I am absolutely
absorbed by calculations, formulas and graphs.
94

Next year I must go to any computer company in order to
have a practice according to my specialty. I’d like to join the
company «IBM» but unfortunately it is situated abroad. Still it has
got a number of affiliates in Russia.
When I finish up studying I’d like to have absolutely free time at
least for 2-3 month to relax. This time is to be devoted to all kinds
of rest and traveling. After that I’m going to find a well-paid job
according to my specialty. 2-3 years after I’m planning to write
Thesis for a Master of Science degree. I believe that it will be
connected with high mathematics as well.

Engineer – Mathematician
I study at the department of “Applied Mathematics” in the
“Institute of Information Technologies” which belongs to the
Moscow State University of Railway Communication.
My future speciality will be called Engineer - Mathematician. This
speciality finds an application in different areas of science and
engineering.
A command of many mathematical disciplines is necessary to
study any computerized process.
95

For two years of training we have studied the following subjects:
Mathematical Analysis, Linear Algebra, Analytical Geometry, The
Probability Theory, The Theory of Coding and others.
Computers are widely represented in modern life now because it is
absolutely impossible to solve any technical problem without them.
That is why the major attention is given to programming at our
University.
We work on such programming languages as Turbo Pascal, Turbo
Vision, and others.
They are widely used in the English speaking countries.
It is practically the reason why the student of our department are
supposed to have an advanced knowledge of English. Still I hope
that English will be useful for me not only in a dialogue with a
computer but from the educational point of view as well.

Industrial Power Energetics
I’m a second-year student of the Moscow State University
of Railway Engineering. My specialty is called “Industrial Power
Energetics”. I have chosen this specialty because I think it is very
important not only for our life but also for our country. I will
graduate from the university in 2015 and I would like to become
highly qualified specialist. After graduation from the university I
can work both in a plant and in an office. My specialty is rather
96

universal. So it includes design of pumps and steam boilers, their
maintenance and installation. I can also be a manager of this works
or organize work of a group of specialists. My future activity can
also be connected with steam and gas boilers, as well as heating
engines, power blocks and technology of gas burning.
Now special attention is paid to such subjects as boilers and
power plants, heat engines, gas burning technology, electric
machines and so on. After graduation from the university I’d like
either to work according to my specialty or to continue my
education as a postgraduate student (or abroad). My specialty is
very important and very much claimed in the modern world. It is
one of five industries our President has paid special attention to.

By Emilia Latipova ( Публикуется посмертно )
Hi, my name is Emily. I am a student of the University "RUT",
studying innovation management.
Innovation management is the discipline of managing processes in
innovation. It can be used to develop both product and
organizational innovation. The focus of innovation management is
to allow the organization to respond to an external or internal
opportunity and use its creative efforts to introduce new ideas,
processes or products. What is important, innovation management
is not relegated to R&D. It involves workers at every level in
contributing creatively to a company development,
manufacturing, and marketing by utilizing appropriate
innovation management tools. Management can trigger and deploy
the creative juices of the whole workforce towards the continuous
97

development of a company. Innovative management is very
difficult. Our main objective in the management of innovation - the
promotion of the innovation process, forecasting possible
obstacles and finding ways to overcome them. Exploitation of
ideas and their correct use in the commercial area leads to
innovations. They are an essential requirement for a successful
business strategy. The correct use of knowledge and ideas are
major challenges for management. Many ideas are inaccurately
valued, many possible innovations are nor recognized neither
brought into the market. This is where the innovation manager
takes over. From the handling of information and the coordination
of the business field's activities, up to innovation, are the
innovation manager's most important tasks. This is the task of the
innovation manager.
What am I going to do after university? In what way of
innovation management will I work? There is a surprisingly wide
range to choose from. For example, I could work for a big
international company, run my own International Business
Research Agency or continue learning innovation technologies to
be a scientist. I would like to work in a big company, which
implements the numerous projects in the architectural design,
construction, reconstruction and repair of a wide range of objects.
There I will manage innovation projects and coordinate work of
subordinates.

Our University
Text A
Russian University of Transport is one of the oldest
higher educational institutions in our country. Its activities were
closely connected with the development of railway transport. The
institute was founded in 1896 as Moscow Engineering School.
Only 60 young men passed the exams successfully and became
students.
At that time it was located in the centre of Moscow on
Tverskaja street. In1898 a special building for the School was
constructed in Bakhmetievskaja Street later renamed after
academician V.N. Obrastsov. Prominent Russian sientists delivered
lectures to the students, for instance: professor N.E. Zhukovskiy,
academician V.N. Obrastsov, academician E.O.Paton, professor
I.I. Ivanchenco and others.
Under the Soviet power RUT has become one of the largest
higher educational institutions in our country.
About 15000 students study at the university. It has
approximately 8 Institutes: the Institute of Transport Technologies
and Control Systems, the Rail Operation and Information
99

Technology Institute, the Railway Construction Institute , the
Finance and Economy Institute, The Humanity Institute, the
Evening Faculty, etc..
University train engineers in many specialties and
vectors\directions. Every year about 2000 students graduate from
the University. The course of study at the university lasts 4 or 5
years. One has to study 4 years to get a Bachelor Degree, 6 years
to become a Master of Science and 5 years to become a Specialist.
The study of theoretical subjects is followed by practical training at
workshops, depots, locomotive building works, on construction
sites, etc. The first and second-year students study such general
subjects as Higher Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Descriptive
Geometry, Drawing, Foreign languages, History of Culture and
other subjects. The study of special subjects begins in the third
year.
Each academic year has two terms. At the end of each
term the students take examinations. Those who pass all the exams
and get good marks are given grants. The university is headed by
the Chancellor. His name is Klimov A. A. At the head of each
Institute is the Director. The name of the Director of our Institute is
Bestemjanov Pjetr Filimonovich.
