IX. Read and translate the text orally. Translate paragraph 4 in writing

The United States is situated in the central part of the North American continent. It consists of three separate parts: the Hawaiian Islands, Alaska, and the rest major part of the USA. The continental part of the USA consists of four physical geographical parts: two highland and two lowland regions. The USA consists of fifty states and the District of Columbia. The states differ in size, population and economic development. The largest of America’s states is Alaska. Rhode Island is the smallest state.

The USA is a country of great diversity. Being a very large country, it has several different climate zones. The coldest regions are in the north and northeast, where much snow falls in winter. The south has a subtropical climate.

Many people travel to the USA by ship. If you are not a poor sailor you won’t be afraid of the rough sea. On board large ships people can visit foreign countries and different places of interest within their own country. Ships usually reach the port of destination on time according to their schedule.

There are a lot of motels in the USA which grew with the development of highways. If you are travelling by car, you can get accommodation in one of them. Staying at a motel has a lot of advantages. You do not have to fight the city traffic to get a comfortable bed for the night. They provide accommodation with parking space near the guests’ rooms. Eating out is very popular in the USA. There are fast food and full service restaurants in the USA. Some restaurants are open even for breakfast. A fast food restaurant is much like a cafeteria. Items such as hamburgers, hot chicken sandwiches, pizza, and salads are typical of a fast food restaurant. Eating in a fast food restaurant takes less time and is less expensive than in a full service restaurant.
