I. Form the comparative and superlative of the following adjectives and adverbs.

Big, heavy, short, dirty, clean, near, bad, famous, little, much, clever, good, expensive, cheap, important, pale, hot, beautiful, large, practical, fat, early, pretty, happy, bright, dark, flat, fresh, full, quick, late, nice, rich, sad, thin, thick, wet, weak, early, funny, easy, lazy, ugly, comfortable, quiet, far.

II. Use the comparative or superlative of the words in brackets

  1. The twenty-second of December is the (short) day of the year.

  2. Iron is (useful) of all metals.

  3. The Dniepr is (wide) and (deep) than the Tjasmyn River.

  4. Elbrus is the (high) peak in the Caucasian mountains.

  5. His plan is (practical) than yours.

III. Compare the following

  1. My sister, my brother (young).

  7. We have received letters, they have received letters (few).

  12. I’ll go through the letters, the secretary will go through the letters (soon).

  13. I liked the performance. My wife liked the performance (much).

  14. We go to the theatre. My friends go to the theatre (often).

IV. Complete these sentences. Each time use the comparative form of one of the following adjectives or adverbs:
