Exercise 1

Make the sentences into negatives.

Example: I can cook – I can’t cook.

1. My grandmother could ski. 2. We must stop now. 3. The letter may arrive tomorrow. 4. He might be there next week. 5. You should buy that car. 6. They can speak French. 7. She might remember you. 8. You must go out today. 9. I have to work later tomorrow. 10. She has to get up early. 11. She had to walk home yesterday.

Exercise 2

Make the sentences into questions.

Example: We should ask for help. – Should we ask for help?

1. You can come to the concert. 2. He could ride a horse. 3. I should go to the police. 4. She could dance the tango. 5. He should see the doctor. 6. I have to pay for the ticket. 7. She has to work on Sundays. 8. They have to sell their car.

Exercise 4

Translate into English, using can, can’t, may, must. Needn’t, shouldn’t, to have to, to be able to.

1. Вона мабуть дома зараз. 2. Вона мабуть була вдома вчора. 3. Ми мабуть приїдемо до вас завтра. 4. Не може бути, що він знає цю картину. 5. Ти не можеш піти туди: ти не знаєш його адреси. 6. The passive voice

Form

be + Past Participle

The Passive Voice shows that the subject of the sentence is “the receiver” of the action
