Следует рассматривать удовлетворение особых потребностей пожилых людей в качестве важного элемента для создания информации о лекарствах как для лиц, назначающих медикаменты, так и для потребителей.
Лица, назначающие медикаменты, должны быть очень осторожны при выборе лекарства для лечения определенного состояния у пожилых людей: они должны убедиться, что лекарство необходимо, что используется минимальная возможная дозировка, и что лекарство хорошо переносится.
Пожилые люди и/или те, кто за ними ухаживает, должны задавать подробные вопросы о необходимости каждого лекарства и побуждать врачей и медицинских работников к рассмотрению немедикаментозного лечения во всех возможных случаях.
Правительствам и органам здравоохранения необходимо обеспечить, чтобы имелась более качественная информация для населения, врачей и фармацевтов об опасностях приема ненужных лекарств пожилыми людьми.
Правительствам следует тщательно следить за рекламными утверждениями, которые высказываются в отношении лекарств для пожилых людей.
