Dear Helen,

Don’t be angry with me for my long silence, but really I was too busy to write.

As you know, I left school in June and began to prepare for my entrance exams to the college. As both my mother and father are teachers I decided to become a teacher too. I think teaching is an interesting and noble profession.

I passed all my exams with excellent marks and now I am a second-year student of Kurgan teachers’ training college.

(1) I would like to tell you about the history of our college. Kurgan teachers’ training college is the successor of Kurgan pedagogical technical secondary school which was situated in Kurgan from 1926 till 1941 in Kuybishev street, 117. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War many teachers went to the front. From 1941 till 1945 there was the military hospital in the building. In the 1^st of June, 1982 there was established the Pedagogical secondary school in Kurgan. In 1996 the Pedagogical secondary school changed into the Kurgan state teachers’ training college.

(2) The college consists of two buildings situated opposite the Central Park of Culture and Rest. The buildings are joined together. On the ground floor you can see a cloak-room, a canteen, a teachers’ room, a medicine room, a library with a reading-room and a number of classrooms. On the first floor there is an assembly hall, a computer centre, a gymnasium, principle and head-master’s rooms and a number of classrooms. On the second floor there is a campus.

(3) The qualifications given in our college are: primary school teachers with optional subjects, such as PT, Computers, Drawing, Music, Correction; PT teachers and nursery school teachers. I study at the department of Primary Education.

(4) At present we have a lot of work as we have English, Children’s Literature, Psychology, Pedagogics, the Culture of speech and others. Almost every day we have 3 or 4 double periods and after that I go to the reading room. I work hard to improve my professional teaching skills.

(5) Besides studies our college organizes different holidays, parties and interesting conversations, we also visit museums, exhibitions, theatres.
