Mary says, “I don’t know his address.”
Mary says that she doesn’t know his address.
My friend asks me, “Where are you going in summer?”
My friend asks me where I am going in summer.
The teacher says, “Mary, read Text 5.”
The teacher asks Mary to read Text 5.
В качестве глаголов, вводящих косвенную речь, чаще всего употребляются глаголы to ask, to order, to tell.
Peter says, “Mother, I’ll come home at 5 o’clock in the evening.”
Peter tells his mother that he will come home at 5 o’clock in the evening.
Peter said, “Mother, I’ll come home early.”
Peter said he would come home early.
Jane asked me, “When will you take this book from the library?”
Jane asked me when I should take that book from the library.
-
вместо Present Indefinite, Present Continuous или Present Perfect Continuous в прямой речи в косвенной употребляется соответственно Past Indefinite, Past Continuous Past Perfect Continuous;
-
вместо Past Indefinite или Present Perfect в прямой речи в косвенной употребляется Past Perfect;
-
Future-in-the-Past Indefinite, Continuous Perfect.

Kate asked me: ”Do you know my address?” – Kate asked me if I knew her address.
Mother asked me: “Have you had your supper?” - Mother asked me if I had had my supper.
