Паління асоціюється з багатьма шкідливими речами, пов'язаними не лише з захворюваннями серцевої та легеневої систем. Але також і репродуктивною системою. Нижче наведено декілька причин, які переконують, що палити треба кинути як найшвидше.
1. Очевидна причина - рак легенів, що за статистикою частіше зустрічається у тих людей, які палять, ніж у тих, які не мають цієї звички. Паління основний фактор роз витку ішемічної хвороби серця. На заході жінки палять так само багато як і чоловіки, а дані підтверджують, що в жінок смертність від судинних захворювань вища, ніж у чоловіків.
Як показали дослідження, паління призводить до зниження щільності кісток та провокує розвиток остеохондрозу. Паління токсично впливає на сперму. Було проведено дослідження двох груп молодих людей (кірців, що палять по 20-30 цигарок на добу, та контрольної групи — осіб, що не палили ніколи). Сперматозоїди курців виявилися менш рухливими та життєдіяльними.
Жінки, що палять 20 та більше цигарок на день, в одному з чотирьох випадків мають коротший менструальний цикл у порівнянні з жінками, що не палять взагалі. Паління скорочує менструальний цикл у прямій залежності від кількості цигарок майже повністю за рахунок фолікулярної фази розвитку яйцеклітини.
Це може бути причиною зниженого рівня естрогену в курців, ранньої менопаузи, безплідності та більш високого рівня мимовільних абортів, ніж у некурців.
