You are going to read about some famous people who all have one thing in common: they came to a sticky end – Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Marilyn Monroe. Read their life stories and see how many of the people you can identify.
His parents divorced when he was eight. He started playing the guitar at school and then formed a band. The band's album, Nevermind, sold 4 million copies and they soon became one of the most successful groups of the 1990s. He didn't like the loss of privacy and the constant attention of crazy fans. On 8 April 1994 he shot himself in the head. He was at home in Seattle, recovering from a drug and alcohol overdose. He was 27 years old.
She grew up in foster homes and orphanages. She started modelling when she worked in a factory. She was then spotted by Hollywood. Her most famous films include Some Like It Hot and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She had failed marriages with baseball star Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller. She was found dead of an overdose of sleeping pills. Some people claim that there were suspicious circumstances surrounding her death resulting from an involvement with President Kennedy. She was 36 years old.
His twin brother died at birth. His father bought him a guitar for his birthday and he made his first record for his mother's birthday. His first hit was called Heartbreak Hotel. It sold over a million copies. His sexy movements on stage made him very unpopular with the older generation. He was once described as 'the most dangerous thing to hit civilization since the atom bomb'. He died of heart failure while sitting on the toilet, reading a book. The doctor said he died of natural causes but a history of drug abuse was soon revealed. Many people believe he is still alive. Others believe he was kidnapped by aliens. He was 42 years old.
She was born in Texas in 1946 but moved to San Francisco in 1966 to sing with the band Big Brother and the Holding Company. She didn't make friends easily and always felt alone. She became the first ever female rock star. On 4 October 1970 (just two weeks after Jimi Hendrix) she overdosed on heroin in her Los Angeles hotel. She was 27 years old.
He grew up in Seattle. Influenced by the music he heard at home, he started playing the guitar. After touring the US, he moved to Europe where he formed the trio, The Experience. His greatest hits include Voodoo Child, Hey Joe and Purple Haze. He liked women, music and good times. His death on 18 September 1970 was a tragic accident. He died while asleep in a London hotel, choking on his own vomit while drunk and sedated. He was 27 years old.
