X. Make up your own dialogues:
1. Two patients are waiting for the doctor to receive them. They are talking about what is troubling them.
2. The doctor is talking to the patient. He is trying to find out what is wrong. The patient is describing some of the symptoms.
You may use the following for a) the doctor, b) the patient.

What are you complaining of? What troubles you? Where is the pain? When do you get it? How long have you had this pain? Do you have any other symptoms? I am afraid you’ve got …. Here is the prescription for …. Take two tablets night and morning until you feel better. The pain will go away.

I feel hot/ cold. Can I get it without a prescription? How do I take this medicine? How often should I take it?
XI. Read and translate the text: at the doctor’s
If you have a bad cough, a cold, a sore throat, a headache, a stomach-ache, toothache, earache or backache, or if you feel pain in any part of your body, you must consult a doctor. The doctor asks you to describe the symptoms of your illness. Then he examines the part of the body which hurts you. If you, for example, have a temperature, have a runny nose, sneeze and cough, the doctor takes your temperature, listens to your chest, feels your pulse and tests your blood pressure. The doctor says you the diagnosis and prescribes you some medicine. You must follow his instructions if you want to recover.
If you need an operation, for example, if you have appendicitis, a surgeon operates on you.
When you have toothache, you go to the dentist’s. The dentist examines your teeth and asks: “Which tooth hurts you?” He says: “That tooth has a cavity. I must stop it, I must put in a filling.” If the tooth is too bad, the dentist extracts it.
