Практический курс английского языка для студентов 1 курса факультета иностранных языков предназначен для дальнейшего совершенствования устной речи и грамматических навыков обучаемых.

Сборник состоит из 14 «юнитов», включающих разнообразные упражнения, задания, направленные на развитие, активизацию мыслительной деятельности обучаемых, языковой компетенции, разговорной речи.

Материал сборника аутентичный, собран из различных источников: периодической печати художественных произведений, справочников и др. Каждый «юнит» завершается тренировочными тестами на чтение, аудирование, лексику, грамматику. Сборник снабжен справочным материалом по грамматике и письменной речи.

Text: About myself.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Alexander. Alec for short. My name is Alexander Sergeyevich Orlov. Orlov is my surname. Alexander is my first name and Sergeyevich is my patronomic. I am not yet nineteen at the moment. I am a first – year student at the University. My parents are not retired. They have two more children besides me. They are my older brother and a younger sister. My sister Helen is seventeen. She is fond of music. Her dream is to become a pianist.

My brother’s name is Michael. He is twenty – seven. He is a builder. He is married. He has a family of his own. They are four in the family. The four members of his family are: his wife and two children – a son and a daughter. They are twins. They are 5 years old.

His wife’s name is Nina. She is twenty – six. She is a surgeon by profession.

A: Excuse me, is this seat free?

P: Yes, it is.

A: Thank you. This is our first lecture at the University.

P: Yes, it is.

A: What is your name, by the way?

P: My name is Paul, and yours?

A: I am Andrew. I’m from Tula and you?

P: I am a native of Moscow.

A: Your families are here in Moscow, aren’t they?

P: Yes, they all are here. Father, mother, two brothers and my younger sister. We are a big family. I am very proud of my bother.

A: What is your father’s profession? Is he a teacher?

P: Yes, you are right. He is a teacher of English. I am eager to be a teacher too. And what’s about your family?

A: My family is all village people. They are farmers. And I have two sisters. They are pupils.

P: Look! The lecturer is coming.

A: It’s a great event. The first lecture is at the University.

P: Yes, isn’t it wonderful? We are University students at last.

1. to introduce oneself – представиться, познакомиться.

to introduce smb to smb – познакомить кoго – либо с кем – либо.

2.английское «name» соответствует русским « имя», «фамилия» или «полное имя»

На вопрос «What’s your name?» отвечающий может сообщить полностью имя или только фамилию. Если спрашивающий не удовлетворен ответом, он может задать уточняющий вопрос.

What is your first (Christian) name? My first name is Nina.

What is your surname (family name)? My surname (family name) is Smirnova.

3.Yet – обычно употребляется в отрицательных и вопросительно – отрицательных предложениях, где оно может стоять после отрицательной частицы not или в конце предложения:

He is not yet here (или: He is not here yet) Isn’t he ready yet?
