Text: My Future profession

In the life of every man there is the time when he is to decide what he is going to be. It is very important to choose the right occupation but it is not easy to do. And it is always rather regrettable when a man begins to doubt the use of his activities and realizes in the long run that he has made a mistake. Some people go on living the way they are used to, reluctant or being afraid to change anything, their lives become boring. Others make a fresh start and get engaged in the work they are cut out for.

To my mind, when we ty to choose our profession we must take into account many factors. First and foremost we must consider our abilities, personal tastes, turn of mind and family traditions. For those who have technical turh of mind it is better to choose the profession of an engineer or something of the kind. If you a good voice and a good ear for music or you are good at painting then you can choose the profession of a musician or an artist. It is rather difficult to speak about one’s abilities but as far as I remember I have always been inclined to study foreign languages. I have a good memory and I am fond of literature.

Speaking abut personal tastes I’d like to stress that they can change during the life. My mother told me that in her childhood she dreamt of becoming a ticket collector at the cinema to see all the films free of charge. She became a doctor and likes her work very much. For a long time she expected me to follow in her footsteps, but she never forced me to take up the work. I am not really interested in.

For some time I thought I would become a lawyer. It is a fashionable profession, and many of my classmates would like to ry it. Little by little, however, I changed my opinion and decided to choose the profession of a teacher, which is less prestigious but still extremely important for the society.

In my opinion, the profession of a teacher is as useful and noble as that of a doctor. A teacher of a foreign languages helps children to broaden their knowledge about the world, to learn about the peoples’ customs and traditions. It is very

rewarding to teach the language of great Shakespeare and Byron, Newton and Darwin, the language which probably half the world speaks. English has become the main language of international communication, one must know it to be able to work in the Internet.

I am fully aware of the difficulties of my future work. But I hope I’ll be suited to the profession I have chosen.

Text: My future career

It’s rather difficult sometime to choose a career and to speak about the future profession. I’d say it’s because a lot may change in our life in a moment. There are lucky people who chose their profession in childhood and since that time have been doing everything possible to acquire proficiency. But they are few.

If we are not indifferent to our future, while thinking about the future career we are to pay attention to a number of impotant things. We should detrmine our abilities and inclinations. Then we should analyse job prospects. We must know whether the profession we have chosen will guarantee good living conditions and give promotions. We must be sure we’ll avoid unemployment or at least will be able to apply our knowledge and skills in other fields of human activity. In short, we are to

decide what we are going to do in our life and feel satisfied, but not bored or disappointed.

When I was a fifthformer I dreamt of becoming a doctor. I wanted to be a surgeon and treat people and save their lives. I admired the courage and generosity of surgeons. But I noticed I can’t bare the sight of blood, I’m not able to deal with surgical instruments. And I gave up this idea.

At that time I realized that I was fond of English. I was always good at English at school. And when we got acquainted with the English and American literature, the lessons of British and American Studies I understand that I want to have a perfect command of the English language and become a good specialist in English.

So I do my best to master the language because I made up my mind to enter the Linguistic University and become either a teacher or an interpreter. I haven’t chosen it yet. Both professions are interesting and necessary in our society. Perhaps, I’ll keep our family tradition and become a teacher of English. But I’ll think about it tomorrow if I enter the University.

My dream has always been to become a lawyer. I chose this profession as my future occupation a long time ago. As a child, I listened to my parents discussing professional matters. Little by little, I got interested in the subject and began thinking of law as my prospective occupation. For me, choosing a career is not only a matter of future prestige and wealth. In my opinion, a job should be interesting and socially important. That is the reason why I have chosen the profession of a lawyer, which gives plenty of opportunities to help people in trouble. I am very well aware of the fact that my interest in the subject is insufficient, I need profound knowledge in the chosen field. That is my ambition is to enter the law department of the University of Moscow. That is a difficult task, and I have to study twice as hard as others. I also take a six months preparatory course at the University. We are given lectures on Literature, Social Sciences; we have seminars in these subjects, too and also tutorials in English.

I hope I`ll manage to pass my entrance exams at the University with good and excellent marks. That will give me a chance of entering the University this year. If I fall at the exams, I`m going to have a try next year. I think to become a lawyer is my final choice.

I`d like to tell some words why I`ve decided to base my future profession on chemistry. When I got acquainted with the simplest chemicals and reactions for the first time, I didn`t realize entirely how interesting chemistry is and how complicated it is, too. In the 8th grade “chemistry” appeared in my school time table and due to books, due to my teacher I was getting more and more absorbed by the marvelous world of chemistry. Exciting and boring book, successful experiments and failures- I experienced these things not once. Several times I took part in chemistry contests held in Moscow. And here successes and failures followed each other. My best results are: the 1st price in the District Contest and the 4th price in Moscow City contest. I decided to take an advanced course of chemistry (lectures, seminars, labs) in the school of Young Chemists organized at Moscow University (chemistry department). I took this course for 2 years.

Once we went on a field trip to a chemical plant outside Moscow. The plant was really gigantic. However, neither the size, nor the sophisticated equipment impressed me, but the people who breathed in invisible particles. I decide that I should devote myself to the protection of people from negative effects of chemicals. I think that all people on the Earth suffer from chemicals. I`d like to use my knowledge in chemistry. I think that the best way to do it is Moscow University; that`s why I`ll try to enter the chemistry department of Moscow University.

Besides, I have to pay attention to English because the international language in chemistry is English.

I go to a specialized English school. I`ve been learning English for 9 years now. It`s one of my favourite subjects. I like to read in English and to listen to English and American radio programmes. I`ve got many pen-pals in the USA and in the UK. I hope that my knowledge of English will help me in my future profession.
