Introducing Myself

Let me introduce myself. I’m Svetlana Alexandrova. I was born on the 29th of March 1985 in Minsk under the zodiac sign of Aries. I believe that stars influence our fate and character. As you see, I am Aries. They say that Aries is full of energy, a leader, straight talker, ambitious and frank, likes sport, stubborn, hot temper, but quick to apologize. Partially it is true. I can’t admit I am stubborn. Actually, I am persistent. It is different, I think.

As to my appearance, I’m rather tall and slim. I have never thought I am beauty. I wish I were more beautiful. I think that I’m even-tempered, rather reserved, calm and modest. But sometimes I can lose my temper and become either angry or sad. I like staying alone and sometimes I retire into my shell. But at the same time I like my friends, I like to laugh and joke. I have got a sense of humour. It means I understand humour and appreciate it. But unfortunately, I’m not often witty myself. I think I’m able to “keep my head when all about me are losing theirs” and to stand up to difficulties when things are not going my way. Besides, I am sincere and tolerant, friendly and faithful, hard-working and serious.

There are many things in our life which I like and some I dislike. I like when everything is OK. Being happy is one way of being wise. I like to study, because knowledge is useful sometimes. I am fond of reading as it gives not only knowledge but also wonderful moments of joy and pleasure. Sometimes I like watching TV or listening to the radio. Especially when I hear some wonderful pieces of music. I like music. It makes people better. It awakens the best feelings and high emotions. But there’s a thing that makes me crazy. I’m fond of horses and equestrian skill. I dislike overcrowded buses. And I hate getting up early. I’m happy I have got more things I like than I dislike.

My family.

Our family is not very large. I have a father, a mother, a brother and a sister. We all live together in a new flat in one of the industrial districts of Atyrau.

My father Sultan Maratovich is 45 years old. He is a tall and well-built man with short black hair and grey eyes. He works at a big automobile plant as an engineer. He likes his work and spends most of his time there. By character my father is a quiet man, while my mother is energetic and talkative. Her name is Nurgul Talgatovna. She is a teacher of music and plays the piano well. My mother always has a lot of work to do about the house and at school. She is a busy woman and we all help her.

My sister’s name is Madina. Like her mother Madina has brown eyes and lovely fair hair. She is a very good-looking girl. Madina is three years younger than me. She is a pupil of the 9th form. She does well at school and gets only good and excellent marks. Literature is her favourite subject and she wants to become a teacher, the same as me.

My name is Samal. Last year I left school and tried to enter the University. But I failed in my exams. For a year I worked at school as a secretary and attended preparatory courses. Now I’m again an applicant for entry to the philological faculty of the University. I hope to be lucky this time.

Our family is very united. We like to spend time together. In the evenings we watch TV, read books and newspapers, listen to music or just talk about the events of the day. Our parents don’t always agree to what we say but they listen to our opinion. All of us like to spend our week-ends out of town. We often go to the village where our grandparents live. They are old-age pensioners now but prefer to live in the country.

My grand-grandmother is still alive. She lives in my grandmother’s family and is always glad to see us. She is in poor health and asks us to come and see her more often.

I also have many other relatives: uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. We are happy when we are together.
