* * *
An interview with Peter.
I = interviewer; P = Peter.
I: Hello, Peter! I am preparing an article about teenagers. Can
I ask you a few questions?

P: Please do. I: Thank you for agreeing to do this, especially when I know you
are studying for your final exams.
P: Yes I am, but I am happy to do this interview. I: Now, my questions. First of all, where are you from? P: Cambridge, England. I: And where do you live? P: At home with my mum. You see, my parents are divorced. I: Oh! I am sorry about that. Are you an only child in the fa-
mily?
P: No. I’ve got a sister. I: Is she older than you? P: Yes, she is. She is 16. I: Where does your father live? P: In Leeds. I: How often do you see him? P: Quite often. We spend every school holiday with him. I: Now a final question. What do you do in your free time? P: I play tennis, and listen to pop music. I: That’s fine, Peter. I’ve got all the information I need. Thank you
very much. P: Thank you. (It’s been a pleasure/ It was a pleasure.)
(I think; As for me; I don’t think; You’d better do).

У учеников уже есть опыт, который они приобрели в микродиалогах типа “What is your name? Where do you live? Do you have any hobbies?”.
A: I see, you are a new boy in our school. What is your name? B: Nicholas, my friends call me Nick for short.
48

A: Really? It’s my grandpa’s name... (or It sounds English!)
ROLE PLAY 1. INTERVIEWING PEOPLE
Cards For Roles:
NEWSPAPER REPORTERS
1. Introduce yourself (your name and the newspaper you work for).
2. Explain the purpose of your interview and ask if you can interview
the person.
3. Even if the interview is spontaneous, prepare some interesting and
suitable questions.
4. Don’t forget to respond actively and show interest to your ques-
tion (surprise, astonishment, wonder etc.).
5. At the end of the interview don’t forget to thank the person.
THE PERSON INTERVIEWED
1. Read the card carefully to understand who you are, what you have
done, what you are going to do, why the reporter wants to interview you, etc.
2. Remember that the questions may be about anything, so be ready
to use your imagination, and fantasise.
3. At the end of the interview, when the reporter thanks you, remem-
ber to respond with thanks in return.
Role Play 1. Interviewing People

BETTY BOOTHROYD, AGED 62
Some tips for your answers: You’re the rst female Speaker for 700 years. You think the duties of the Speaker carry great responsibilities. You refused to wear a wig (парик). Explain why. You were victorious over many male-rivals in the election. Your salary is 65 thousand pounds a year. In your younger years you were quite a talented dancer. After being elected Speaker you moved to the at in the Houses
of Parliament. The at is marvellous and looks over the river Thames.
You are a member of the Labour party. It’s a democratic tradition
in the British Parliament to elect the Speaker from the members of the Labour party.
“How did you feel opening the first sitting of Parliament?”
“What did your relatives say upon hearing about your victory in the election for Speaker?”
Prime Minister John Major.
JOHN MAJOR, AGED 49 NOW IT IS ANOTHER PERSON
You were born into a family of circus performer. In your childhood you lived in the East End of London. At 16 you left school and started working (a labourer, an errand
boy in a bank, a bus conductor). Sometimes you were unemployed. As a child you were a Scout.
50
You enjoyed playing cricket in your school playground. You are a member of the Conservative party. Since 1979 you have been an MP. In 1989 you were appointed as Foreign Minister. It was Margaret Thatcher who helped you to be a success in your
political activities.
Полезной подготовкой к этим интервью может быть интервью с инопланетянином (an alien — a being from another planet), неожиданно попавшим в класс.
бок ребят (фамилия ученика — допущенная ошибка);
2. побуждать абсолютно всех задавать вопросы;
What is your name?
How old are you?
What is the name of your planet?
Do you have winter, spring, autumn and summer?
Do people on the planet live in cottages, flats or in the water?
