Эта дискуссия очень хороша для использования следующих
фраз:
On the plus side… For one thing… On the one hand… On the other hand… What is more… Last of all… All in all… In conclusion… All
things considered.
Разминка перед групповой дискуссией:
1. Цепочка высказываний. Каждый ученик принимает участие
в разминке. Один называет положительный момент (advantage
or pro), сосед — отрицательный (disadvantage or con). Такие разминки подготавливают учащихся к активному участию в ролевой
игре.
2. Дискуссия в парах между городским и сельским жителем.
3. Один против всех. Сторонник городской жизни доказывает
преимущество проживания в больших городах. Все остальные по
очереди на каждый «плюс» находят «минус».
4. Любитель сельской жизни доказывает преимущество проживания вне шумного города. Учащиеся также находят «плюсы» и
«минусы».

Учитель может обратить внимание учащихся на то, что у каждого из молодых людей свои критерии при выборе места жительства, которые можно обобщить, добавляя другие.
Прежде чем проводить дискуссию, попросите учащихся поговорить со знакомыми, чьи родственники эмигрировали, чтобы узнать
о причинах эмиграции, изменениях в их жизни и первоначальных
трудностях. Попросите их обсудить с родителями эту тему, узнать, что
они думают и по чему бы они скучали, уехав из страны.
В начале дискуссии вы можете поговорить с детьми о том, что
очень дорого для каждого человека, независимо от того, в какой
стране он живет.
Do they know anybody who moved to a new country in search
of a new life?
Did they find a better life there? What initial difficulties did
they have?
How did they overcome them?
CARD 1
You emigrated to Germany. You don’t speak German, but speak a
little English. You had been looking for a decent job for 4 months,
and then agreed to take one which is not badly paid. (Programmer) You married a German girl who knows your native language
and she sometimes helps you, but it is not the way out. You have
to learn German.
Some of your colleagues are not friendly to you, and you can’t
understand why. You miss your parents and friends and are looking forwards to visiting your native town. You think that overall

your move is successful, but not that much. (Find some shortcomings.)
CARD 2
You emigrated to Canada. One of your classmates had done it
before and invited you to come.
For you it is not bad, but only in summer, because you have a
seasonal job (it may be running a hotel for tourists and they come
only in summer, or work on the beach). The huge dierence between summer and winter incomes spoils your life. Your father is
70 and nds it dicult to get used to living in Canada (he doesn't
know anybody, misses his friends, and former colleagues and it is
a problem). You don’t have a language barrier as you speak English, and your wife speaks French.
She is a Geography teacher, but is still looking for a job, where
you live there are only 4 schools, and no current vacancies. She is
thinking about doing some courses to change her profession.
CARD 3
You were satised with the life you had, but when you married an
Englishman you had to emigrate to England. Before the marriage
you had visited England twice. You are an interpreter and speak
English uently. You adjusted very easily, and found a decent job.
The only problem is missing your parents and friends, but you
visit them every other year.

Version 1

LORRY DRIVER for a large company, 40 hours per week, it involves
day and night shifts, trips on business, good salary.
NEWSPAPER REPORTER for a national paper, foreign languages
are obligatory. (English preferable), ability to contact and be friendly
with people, one-or two weeks’ trips, good salary).
SECRETARY TO THE C.E.O. (Chief Executive Officer), aged 25–
35, good computer skills, foreign languages, a good organizer, responsibility for working with papers and documents, patient, polite, higher
education, references required, very good salary.

week, only day shifts, nice appearance, good manners, a foreign language is desirable, reasonable salary.
Такая коллективная работа поможет ученикам подготовиться к
игре. Теперь их можно распределить по 2 группам: одна группа —
Personnel Managers, другая группа — Applicants.
Personnel Managers проводят интервью только по поводу одной
вакансии. Они должны задавать вопросы, которые логичны для нее.
Например, смешно спрашивать человека, желающего получить место водителя: “Can you drive a car?” Вместо этого у него лучше поинтересоваться: “Are you an experienced driver? How long have you
driven a car? Which foreign countries did you go to in your car?”

сами выбирают профессию), другая половина ребят — Personnel
Managers.

Помогите ребятам сформировать пары: Personnel Manager + Applicant. Можно показать пример интервью перед группой, если в
этом есть необходимость. Затем интервью проходит в парах. По
окончании игры Personnel Managers необходимо прокомментировать результат, оценить, подходит ли компании Applicant или нет
и почему.
Version 2
В этом варианте выбирается одна вакансия и один Personnel
Manager. Он проводит интервью со всеми по очереди и выбирает
себе сотрудника, объясняя, почему он выбрал именно этого претендента. Пока двое беседуют, остальные могут выполнять какиелибо письменные задания. Они не должны слушать интервью.

Version 1

Vocabulary: A part-time job, a full-time job, responsibility, reliable,

of character, wages, to be in charge of, staff, to be suitable, the right
qualifications and experience, outgoing manner, in return for your
contribution to work, competitive salary plus benefits, and friendly
environment at work.
Your duties involve doing…
We need you from…in the morning until…in the afternoon.
Could you give me a few more details about the job?
What duties does the job involve? What are the working hours?
My choice will depend to some extent on what the salary is. Etc.
Начать ролевую игру можно с обсуждения со всей группой или
в группах по 3–4 человека проблемы поиска работы.
1. What do you have to do before trying to find a job? (education,
qualification)

3. What should you do after reading an advertisement in newspa-

TIPS FOR THE INTERVIEWER
1. Be polite and friendly: it will help the applicant be calm and condent.
2. Start the interview with some greetings and pleasant words.
3. Don’t show that you are not satised with an answer.
4. If you see that the applicant is not the person you need, refuse in
a very polite way.
5. If you want to know about the applicant's weaknesses, try to do
it with the help of some situations: What would you do if you are
asked to do… but you can’t because you have other plans?
Эта ролевая игра — хорошее упражнение для употребления
Conditional Sentences, только Personnel Managers должен иметь возможность подумать, чтобы дать несколько ситуаций типа:
What would you do if you were asked to do…, but your working
day was over?
What would you do if you were sent on business but you were invited to a birthday party? (Your friend’s jubilee, etc.)
What would you do if you saw that your senior staff was not right
or not competent in some points?
1. If you are interested in the character of the applicant (if he likes
having conflicts) ask him what he / she thinks of current colleagues and the current boss).
2. Remember to ask some difficult questions such as:
“What are the weaknesses in your character?”
“What salary do you expect to have?”
“What is your attitude towards criticism?”
3. When you have finished, decide if the applicant is suitable for
the post or not. Give your reasons politely (I’m afraid…, I dare
say…, Ithink…).

TIPS FOR APPLICANTS

1. Try to arrive on time.
2. Wear neat, smart clothes.
3. Be calm and if you don’t like anything, return and politely reject
it.
4. Don’t be afraid to ask about the salary, any chance of getting a
rise, working hours, promotion prospects.
5. At the end of the interview don’t forget to thank the interviewer,
even if you don’t get the job.
6. If you don’t get the job, you may ask why.
Version 2
Один претендент временно безработный, а другой — сотрудник
Центра занятости.
Сотрудник имеет список вакансий (любых, которые учитель
считает подходящими) и информацию о каждой вакансии: время
или график работы, зарплата, обязанности и т. д.
Например:
1. Job
2. Location
3. Duties
4. Working hours
5. Qualification
6. Salary / wages
7. Necessary experience
8. Necessary disposition (temper)
Претенденты на должность выбирают работу, и сотрудник Центра занятости начинает интервью.
Заполненный бланк помогает работнику Центра занятости описать должность, не упустив ничего.
Version 3
Два сотрудника разговаривают с кандидатами на должность в
разных углах класса одновременно. Они представляют одну и ту
же фирму и одну вакансию. Каждый из группы должен пройти

собеседование с обоими сотрудниками. Тем, кто не занят в игре,
можно дать письменное задание.
По окончании интервью каждый сотрудник говорит, кто из кан-
дидатов получает работу и почему.
Может так случится, что один и тот же кандидат будет избран
обоими сотрудниками, но другие варианты тоже возможны.
ROLE PLAY 26. FORMER CLASSMATES REUNION
GET TOGETHER
На мой взгляд, эта ролевая игра самая продуктивная по употреблению в свободной речи всего грамматического материала:
Past tenses, used to, would do, Present Perfect Simple and Continuous,
Present Simple and Continuous.
Vocabulary: Various expressions including appearance, family, work,
hobbies, travelling, friends, families, etc.
Speech phrases:
Expressing joy, surprise:
Wow! Is that you! I can’t believe that’s you!
I can’t believe my eyes!
I wouldn't have recognised you! Haven’t you changed!
What a surprise!
Nice to see you!
Compliments:
You look fine! Great / lovely /fantastic!
What have you done with your hair!
I like the colour, it really suits you!
You look so respectable (nice, lovely, wonderful)!
Observations:
You haven’t changed at all!
You’ve got much slimmer!
