Be Careful with Medicine at Home

1. Keep the medicine in a locked box, on a separate shelf beyond the reach of children.

2. Read the label before you open the bottle or box. Read the instructions and dose carefully.

3. Shake the bottle with liquids or the last dose can be too strong.

4. Keep the medicine in a cool place.

Prescribing drugs

Suppose you are sick. You go to your doctor. After examining you, the doctor writes a prescription.

A prescription is a written order for medicine. A prescription can be written only by a doctor. It tells a pharmacist what medicine the doctor has ordered for the patient.

A pharmacist is a person who prepares medicine for you. A pharmacist may work in a pharmacy(drugstore) or hospital.

A prescription drug is a drug prepared only for you. Each prescription drug has a label. The label tells how the drug should be used. Look at this label and answer the questions.

1. Who should use this medicine?

2. What doctor ordered the medicine?

3. What is the name of the medicine?

4. How often should it be taken?

5. What is the price of it ?
